Background / History
Seeking Treatment for Ma Hongjun
Flender brings his disciple Ma Hongjun to Medical Saint Douluo Ye Shuyuan, hoping to cure the Evil Fire associated with Ma Hongjun’s martial soul. Ye Shuyuan explains that the fire can only be suppressed: forcibly removing it would damage the martial soul and could cripple his disciple. Flender asks for alternatives after learning that an ice-attribute soul master could help suppress it 13.
During the visit, Ma Hongjun’s fantasies trigger an Evil Fire outbreak. Ye Qingzhou restrains him and administers Ice Grass. Flender checks his disciple for injuries afterward, then learns that the unusually powerful child is Ye Shuyuan’s grandson. Despite his Soul Saint cultivation, he cannot determine Ye Qingzhou’s level 13 14.
When Ma Hongjun insists on finding a female ice-attribute soul master, Ye Qingzhou beats him. Flender considers intervening but remains silent after Ye Shuyuan dismisses the incident as children roughhousing. His subsequent attempt to recruit Ye Qingzhou into Shrek is immediately rejected 14.
Visit to Blue Tyrant Academy
Ye Shuyuan criticizes Flender’s academy management, particularly its failure to protect students who died in the Star Dou Great Forest. Flender suppresses his anger rather than challenge a Titled Douluo and leaves with Ma Hongjun. He nevertheless privately resolves to recruit Ye Qingzhou, considering his strength valuable for Shrek’s future participation in the Soul Master Tournament 15.
Seeking information about ice-attribute soul masters, Flender visits Blue Tyrant Academy, run by his old acquaintance Liu Erlong. He acknowledges privately that its facilities greatly surpass Shrek’s. When guards deny him entry during school hours, he manifests his martial soul and seven rings, invokes the Golden Iron Triangle’s reputation, and orders them to announce his arrival 15.
Skywater Academy Conflict
Three years after the clinic visit, Flender and Ma Hongjun approach Skywater Academy about suppressing Ma Hongjun’s Evil Fire. After being rejected, they return with reinforcements. Shrek’s pressure on Shui Bing’er and other female students leads Shui Yue’er to seek help from Ye Shuyuan. Skywater’s dean, Shui Qingrou, reports that the local Martial Soul Hall branch is enabling Shrek’s conduct 27 28 29.
Flender joins Zhao Wuji and Liu Erlong in confronting the academy’s guards. He and Zhao Wuji have withheld details about Ma Hongjun’s brothel visits and the sexual implications of the proposed “cultivation” from Liu Erlong. Ye Shuyuan and Dugu Bo interrupt the confrontation, suppress all three teachers, and take them to the training grounds. After Dugu Bo slaps him, Flender begs the two Titled Douluos to overlook their insolence 30 31.
At the training grounds, Flender finds Ma Hongjun hallucinating under Ye Qingzhou’s Dark Fragrance Bind. He knocks his disciple unconscious and confronts Ye Qingzhou. Flender then joins Liu Erlong in attacking Ye Qingzhou and Shui Bing’er with their Martial Soul Avatars. The children withstand the assault for two and a half minutes through Ice Ring Armor and Extreme Healing; after the teachers replenish their soul power and continue attacking, Ye Qingzhou uses Thousand Flower Shadows to escape 32 33.
Arrest and Compensation
Luo Feng arrives with Hall Master Chengye and the Angel Legion. Flender accuses Chengye of betraying Shrek despite accepting their bribes. He also attempts to dissuade Luo Feng from arresting Zhao Wuji, arguing that Zhao Wuji’s conflict with Martial Soul Hall belongs to the past 33 34.
Flender and Liu Erlong are ordered to apologize to Skywater Academy’s students and staff. Shui Qingrou accepts the apology but demands compensation for the distress they caused.
