Background / History

Li Taibai grew up in an orphanage alongside Ling Feng and Ye Fan, where the three were regarded as unusual “outliers.” He wore a washed-out long robe and was seen using a tree branch to write on the ground. 10

His awakening of the Green Lotus Sword and Sword Immortal Wine Gourd made him a sought-after genius. Qian Daoliu and Bibi Dong competed to recruit him and the other gifted children, while Golden Crocodile Douluo promised cultivation resources and a route toward becoming a Titled Douluo. 12 Li Taibai ultimately became Qian Daoliu’s personal and final disciple, receiving a spatial Soul Tool as a meeting gift. 13 Li Taibai and Ye Fan subsequently exchanged a competitive look, establishing an early rivalry. 13

Li Taibai is a transmigrator whose Favorability System accompanied him into the Douluo Continent. Li Taibai is ambitious, calculating, and highly attentive to opportunities for advancement. He pursues resources, points, wealth, and favor from Qian Renxue, often treating information and other people as tools for his objectives. 40 48 54

He can be flattering and manipulative, such as when he used an ancient text about the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well to encourage Qian Daoliu’s participation in an expedition. 40 He also attempted to secure advantages from Qian Renxue by asking to learn her Inch Burst technique and later requesting additional Magic Tools before undertaking a mission in Slaughter City. 40 220

His conduct toward enemies is notably cruel: he advocated psychologically destroying Tang Hao rather than killing him outright, humiliated Tang San, blackmailed Tang Hao, and later tortured the injured Tang Hao. 47 54 107 110 During the conflict with Shrek, he helped prepare hallucinogenic drugs for a nighttime raid and used threats to coerce Tang San’s group. 201 205

Despite his arrogance, Li Taibai recognizes overwhelming strength. He acknowledged Qian Renxue’s power during her battle with Tang Hao and warned Hu Liena against offending Qian Renxue. 32 44 Although he remains fiercely competitive with Ling Feng and Ye Fan, he is willing to cooperate with them when their interests align. 36 112

His pragmatism becomes especially apparent before Chen Qingxuan and Qian Renxue. Li Taibai’s twin-Martial-Soul awakening placed him at the center of the Worship Hall–Pope Hall recruitment dispute. 12 He chose Qian Daoliu as his teacher and became the Grand Elder’s final disciple. 13 He later rose alongside Ling Feng and Ye Fan, acquiring a third soul skill and joining them against Qian Renxue. 36

Li Taibai subsequently revealed the Green Lotus Domain during a second confrontation with Qian Renxue, though the Three Heroes were again decisively defeated. 39 Qian Daoliu’s response to their performance was to increase their monthly cultivation resources. 40

Before the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well expedition, Li Taibai had already presented an ancient text describing Whale Rubber’s body-strengthening properties. The claims proved effective after refinement, enabling him and Ye Fan to absorb stronger first soul rings. The book was a fabricated means of introducing his knowledge to the Worship Hall. 14 17

Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well expedition

Li Taibai supplied Qian Daoliu with information from an ancient book concerning the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, helping set the expedition in motion. 40 His real motive included gaining a share of the well’s resources and taking advantage of Qian Daoliu’s support. 40 At the well, he assessed the fortune surrounding Tang Hao, Tang Xiao, and Tang San, then traded information and loyalty for Qian Renxue’s pills and favor. 42 48

The ancient book was purchased through his System rather than found by chance. Li Taibai had it artificially aged and annotated to make it credible. He also favored Qian Daoliu’s participation because he did not believe he could defeat the site’s guardian, Dugu Bo, alone. 40

Conflict with the Tang family and Shrek

Li Taibai exploited Tang Hao’s vulnerability by demanding a spirit bone or severed finger in return for the Blue Silver Emperor’s safety. 54 Years later, Tang San recognized him as the person who had crippled him at the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well. 105 Li Taibai subsequently toyed with Tang San, tortured Tang Hao after his defeat, and fought Tang San again during the larger conflict. 107 110 214

During the Soul Master Tournament confrontation, he displayed eight soul rings, including a hundred-thousand-year red ring, and deployed the Green Lotus Domain to suppress Tang San’s Blue Silver Domain. 212 216 He launched a giant sword phantom that compelled Tang San to expose his Clear Sky Hammer and Twin Martial Souls in order to defend the Shrek Seven Devils. 217 He received a fourth-tier jade sword tassel from Qian Renxue after the tournament, substantially strengthening the Green Lotus Sword. 219

Li Taibai also maintained an intelligence-gathering operation on Tang San and the other Shrek members. He used his available authority to investigate their abnormal progress over several years and reported their cultivation, Martial Souls, and soul-ring configurations to Qian Renxue. 100 101 195 He suspected that they were either reincarnators from the future or transmigrators with their own advantages, and advocated testing them before taking decisive action. 102

Schemes under Qian Renyou

Li Taibai proposed multiple plans to disrupt the Shrek Seven Devils’ championship competition, including capturing and framing Shrek’s female members to lure out Tang San’s group. Qian Renyou rejected the first two proposals. 198 199

He later joined Ling Feng and Ye Fan in a nighttime raid on Shrek, using invisibility and flying Magic Tools to observe the group before deploying his hallucinogenic drug. 201 The three captured several Shrek members and attempted to coerce Tang San, Dai Mubai, and Oscar through humiliation and threats. 205 207

Pact of God Slaying

Li Taibai joined Qian Renxue, Ling Feng, and Ye Fan in a secret agreement to slay gods and seize divine thrones. Qian Renxue promised each of the Three Heroes one Seed of Divinity, while retaining the remaining Seeds for herself. 112

Slaughter City mission

After Tang San entered Slaughter City, Li Taibai volunteered to eliminate the hidden danger on Martial Soul Hall’s behalf. He was concerned that Slaughter City’s restrictions on soul rings would weaken him and requested additional Magic Tools from Qian Renxue for protection. 220 Qian Renxue instead granted him a Wing Imprint capable of blocking three god-level attacks for three breaths each, and Qian Daoliu approved his mission. 220

Li Taibai, Ling Feng, Ye Fan, and Hu Liena subsequently confronted and restrained Tang San in Slaughter City. 225 Li Taibai later completed one hundred consecutive victories by instantly defeating nine opponents in his final arena battle. 296 After entering Hell Road, he killed the Three-Headed Bat King in a single strike while the Three Heroes pursued Tang San toward the Asura God’s sealed inheritance space. 301

Before that pursuit, the group forced the magically bound Tang San to scout Hell Road. They easily dealt with a swarm of bloodthirsty bats, but Tang San used the encounter and terrain to attempt an escape. 300

After the secret-realm events, Li Taibai decided to return to Spirit City and investigate the secrets surrounding Qian Renxue. Two years had passed in the outside world, and he had already completed another costly System upgrade and investigated her protective mark. 302

Revelation of Chen Qingxuan

Upon returning to the Worship Hall, Li Taibai and Ye Fan found Chen Qingxuan seated in the foremost position alongside Qian Daoliu, Qian Renxue, and Gu Yuena. Li Taibai’s secret attempt to probe this unfamiliar figure caused System errors. Chen Qingxuan then glanced at him, triggering reversed Soul Power, meridian pain, soul distress, and a mouthful of blood. 303

Ye Fan steadied him, and Qian Daoliu suppressed the resulting internal chaos. Li Taibai concealed the cause by describing his injuries as a minor cultivation deviation, though he remained terrified of Chen Qingxuan. 303 The encounter helped overturn the Three Heroes’ belief that their transmigrator origins and Systems made them uniquely favored protagonists. Li Taibai later joined Ye Fan in confronting Ling Feng with the reality of their limitations. 311

Sea God Island and divine trials

After the Slaughter City events, Chen Qingxuan offered Li Taibai, Ling Feng, and Ye Fan the opportunity to attempt the Sea God’s Nine Trials because they had already obtained the Asura God’s Trial. Li Taibai accepted immediately and pledged obedience. 311

He later proposed that the Three Heroes exchange cultivation techniques and insights, arguing that unity and shared knowledge were necessary for their future survival and advancement. 312 On Sea God Island, Li Taibai and the others withstood Bo Saixi’s Demigod-level pressure before Qian Renyou intervened and demanded that they be allowed to participate in the divine trial. 317

Their technique exchange included Li Taibai’s inward-focused Soul Power and divine-soul cultivation, Ye Fan’s blood- and body-nourishing Qilin Method, and Ling Feng’s bone- and battle-intent-refining Tiger Roar Method. By sharing insights and incorporating each method’s strengths, they improved the completeness of their cultivation systems. 313

Li Taibai, Ling Feng, Ye Fan, Qian Lingxi, and Qian Chongming subsequently reported that they had completed the Sea God’s First Trial. Each received a thousand-year increase to every soul ring’s age and five percent Sea God affinity. Qian Daoliu approved of their progress and regarded Tang San’s group as useful competitors who could help sharpen Martial Soul Hall’s disciples. Battle against the Seven Sacred Pillar Douluo

After the seven guardians recovered from Ling Yuan’s earlier punishment, Li Taibai entered their arena alone. He drank wine, recited poetry, and performed a sword dance, continuously building sword intent until his aura approached twice its original strength. Sea Dragon Douluo ordered the guardians to attack before he could accumulate further momentum. 343

The seven used coordinated physical attacks, Soul Power, mental assaults, and flute-based restraints to surround him. Li Taibai blocked Hai Wang Douluo’s mental attack with his pure sword heart, dispelled the Sea Witch’s restraint by drinking wine, and used precise swordsmanship and movement to evade or redirect the remaining attacks. He continued reciting throughout the siege and maintained the upper hand. 343

His performance impressed and unsettled both allied disciples and the Shrek group. Ling Feng, Ye Fan, Qian Chongming, and Qian Lingxi acknowledged his strength while refusing to regard Twin Martial Souls as the sole determinant of ultimate power. Tang San’s confidence was shaken, whereas Ning Rongrong was captivated by Li Taibai’s heroic bearing. Qian Daoliu explained to Bo Saixi that the Wine Gourd remained without soul rings because Li Taibai intended to obtain ten hundred-thousand-year rings for it. 344

Sea God Island’s change of High Priest

Following Sea Dragon Douluo’s appointment as the new High Priest, Li Taibai jokingly commented on Qian Daoliu’s renewed romantic prospects. Qian Lingxi warned him against casually discussing the clan leader, and he promptly backed down. 356
