"You."
Qin Mo looked at Horus and said a single word with absolute certainty.
Horus looked around, then pointed at himself in astonishment. "Me?"
"Don't worry. You weren't the only one who rebelled."
Mortarion stepped forward and raised a hand, pointing out every clone Primarch whose original had rebelled.
"You. Horus."
"Magnus, Fulgrim, Angron, Lorgar, Alpha and Omega, Perturabo, Koz."
Mortarion identified every clone of the rebel Primarchs.
As Mortarion made his identifications, every clone Primarch except Koz held his breath, fearing that Mortarion would speak his name.
The clone Primarchs who had been identified, meanwhile, were stunned and bewildered.
To Qin Mo, this was perfectly normal. Before turning to Chaos, every rebel Primarch had rendered tremendous service to the Imperium. During the Great Crusade, they had faced one human or xenos force after another.
Even enemies as powerful as the Rangdan and the Quietude, formidable foes that required Space Marines to be piled up as cannon fodder, had been dealt with by the Primarchs.
These clone Primarchs' memories were still stuck at the end of the Great Crusade.
Even as clones of their originals, clones whose thoughts and mental states were no different from theirs, it was difficult for them to imagine how they had gone from fighting for humanity to betraying the Emperor and the Imperium, becoming warlords cowering within the Eye of Terror.
It was as inconceivable as Lion, who had once gone to fight the Rangdan, suddenly making a complete about-face and betraying the Emperor to join the Rangdan.
"And you, Mortarion. You rebelled too," Perturabo reminded him.
Mortarion shot Perturabo a sinister glance. "I know. But I can't rattle off that many names in one breath. I needed to catch my breath."
That excuse was so clumsy that Perturabo could not be bothered to refute
