Background / History

Tang San studied under Yu Xiaogang from an early age and regarded him with the same filial respect he held for his father. He trusted Yu Xiaogang’s judgment that Lan Si, a support-type soul master with only innate level-five soul power, would eventually fade into mediocrity. This belief led Tang San to dismiss Lan Si as unworthy of friendship despite Lan Si helping him gain an opportunity at the Otto Blacksmith Shop. 15 18 62

He acquired his first soul ring from a Black Mamba Snake while concealing the details of the hunt from Yu Xiaogang. Tang San viewed the world’s soul power as analogous to internal energy and relied on the Mysterious Heaven Skill to cultivate it. 14

Lan Si’s unexpected rise repeatedly shattered Tang San’s confidence. After Lan Si defeated Shrek members and blocked Tang San, Xiao Wu, and Dai Mubai’s combined assault, Tang San began doubting his martial soul, cultivation path, and advantages as a twin martial soul owner. 72 79 82 The resulting psychological pressure left him unable to advance beyond level 39 for more than a year. 135

Dugu Bo helped Tang San overcome this stagnation. After reaching level 40, Tang San resolved to defer revenge against Lan Si until he possessed overwhelming personal strength. 136 He subsequently risked an over-limit fourth ring from the Crypt Demon Spider in pursuit of greater power. 138

Tang San prematurely began cultivating his Clear Sky Hammer to win the Soul Master Tournament and challenge Lan Si, despite objections from Yu Xiaogang and his father. 227 229 His inability to endure the intended high-age hammer rings revealed the physical cost of switching martial souls too early. 229

After spending two and a half years in Slaughter City, Tang San earned one hundred consecutive Hell Slaughter Arena victories and chose to enter the Hell Road. 303 He later founded the Tang Sect, beginning with plans to recruit the Strength Clan. 310

Tang San is disciplined, determined, and highly strategic. He studies Soul Master theory, trains the Purple Demon Eye at dawn, uses deception to aid Dugu Bo’s escape, and repeatedly seeks dangerous opportunities to increase his strength. 18 96 138 220

His greatest weakness is an intense inability to accept defeat, particularly against Lan Si. Losses triggered prolonged self-doubt, isolation, cultivation stagnation, and an obsessive desire to prove the superiority of his path. 79 135 156 Once he regained confidence, he committed himself to waiting for sufficient strength before pursuing revenge. 136

Tang San is fiercely protective of Xiao Wu and refused her offer to sacrifice herself for his advancement. 229 However, the Rakshasa inheritance and his pursuit of revenge eroded his loyalty to his companions; he ultimately murdered Ma Hongjun for divine power. 361 362
