Background

Zhengyi was born a Konoha commoner without a clan, bloodline, or inherited secret technique. Before recovering his past-life memories, he was an exceptional Ninja Academy student: he wrote an annotation on the Will of Fire that received repeated praise from Hiruzen Sarutobi, and became the academy’s top student after Kakashi’s early graduation 2.

On his twelfth birthday, Zhengyi regained memories of a previous life and realized that he had chosen Orochimaru’s side. Orochimaru had accepted him as a disciple because of his sharp intellect and entrusted him with abducting subjects for human experiments. Zhengyi was deeply ashamed of this work, particularly because he believed Orochimaru’s eventual defection would leave him exposed as an accomplice 1 2.

Rescue of Rin and Obito’s Legacy

During the conflict involving Madara and White Zetsu, Zhengyi rescues Rin, fights beside Kakashi and Obito, and desperately attempts to free Obito after he is crushed by a boulder. Obito entrusts Rin and his Three-Tomoe Sharingan to Zhengyi before he is counted among the casualties 26 31 32.
