Background / History

After Yahiko's death, Konan remained beside Nagato and took on the practical burden of running both Akatsuki and Amegakure. She managed recruitment, intelligence, finances, supplies, and mission coordination so that Nagato could focus on pursuing Yahiko's dream; the workload routinely left her exhausted. She was also forced to mediate the disruptive conflict between Kakuzu and Orochimaru. 35

An unknown intruder left a notebook, the Amegakure Log, in her sealed room without triggering its defenses. Its entries described a future in which Amegakure fell, Nagato was defeated by Naruto Uzumaki, and promised change never reached the Land of Rain. The journal made Konan question Akatsuki's methods, the supposed invincibility of the Rinnegan, and the belief that peace achieved through overwhelming power would be enough. 35 36 37

The journal's accounts of Hyuga Kiyonari and the Land of Snow introduced her to the practical value of infrastructure, science, and ordinary researchers. Rather than immediately exploiting Kazahana Koyuki and the geothermal generator for Akatsuki, Konan chose to investigate personally. She traveled to the Land of Fire, located Koyuki under her stage identity of Fujikaze Yukie, and began considering what she herself wanted beyond being Akatsuki's “White Tiger.” 49 50 51

Konan later began redirecting her efforts toward improving Amegakure itself. She collected information on Konoha's education, medicine, taxation, and industries, and persuaded Pain to share Amegakure's governmental workload. Her vision shifted from imposing peace through divine power to creating conditions in which the Land of Rain could develop and its people could live better lives. 66

After meeting Kiyonari in person, Konan developed a trusting partnership with him and Jiraiya. She leaked Kumogakure's deployment of the Two-Tails' jinchūriki to Konoha, investigated the Rinnegan's origins, and concluded that the masked man and Zetsu had manipulated Nagato and Akatsuki toward collecting tailed beasts. 101 103 114

Following Nagato's death in the Holy Grail War, Konan was left grief-stricken but sought Konoha's assistance to revive him through the Impure World Reincarnation Jutsu. She also freed Uchiha Hikari from her underground seal, brought her toward Konoha for treatment, and recruited Kakuzu as Amegakure's Minister of Finance after Akatsuki split from the village. 141 146 155

Konan is a young woman with blue hair, usually wearing a paper flower in it. Her standard combat attire is a black Akatsuki cloak patterned with red clouds over a purple bodysuit; when traveling discreetly, she has used an older plain black robe. 35 49 51

Personality

Konan is disciplined, observant, and intensely responsible. Even while exhausted, she handles Amegakure's affairs late into the night and insists on sharing Nagato's burdens rather than leaving him to bear them alone. 35 66

Her initial pragmatism is tempered by growing empathy. While assessing the Land of Snow, she recognizes that researchers and other “ordinary people” have value beyond their usefulness as tools. Her encounter with Koyuki and a kindly dumpling-stall owner further destabilizes her old certainty about Akatsuki's path. 49 51

Konan is also cautious and secretive. She protects the existence of the future journal, uses intermediaries such as Orochimaru and Zetsu to test dangerous intelligence, and does not readily trust other villages—or even Konoha—despite working with Jiraiya and Kiyonari. 93 119
