Background / History

Dianya first meets Bai Cai while he is using the alias White Night and staying at her uncle Ross's residence. Introducing herself as Ross's niece, she allows him into the manor, offers him a choice of drinks, and treats him warmly at breakfast the following morning. She later helps him investigate Belun's looming disaster by offering access to historical records in exchange for a price of his choosing. 94 95 97

Her true position is revealed during Belun's economic lockdown: Dianya is the current head of the Belun Family, not merely a resident or attendant at the manor. Although initially reluctant to involve her family in the dispute, she convenes a banquet for Belun's major interests as the lockdown threatens the family's shipping, brewing, and commercial operations. 104 106

Despite her age, Dianya has controlled the Belun Family for several years. She expanded its business beyond brewing into profitable coastal shipping, maintains strict rewards and punishments, and commands deference even from older relatives.
