All in all, under Solam's threats and inducements, the paladins finally removed their gear. However, most of them only handed over the damaged equipment to Solam; they kept anything more valuable or intact, whether weapons or armor.
Looking at the pile of junk before him, Solam had only one thought: Who the hell said paladins were dumb? These guys were clearly shrewd as hell! They handed over this trash and expected Solam to compensate them in full—double compensation, no less!!! They couldn't have been any more cunning!
Fortunately, the lump of flesh Godzilla had become was not picky at all. It ate whatever it was given, not even sparing the junk! In less than three minutes, Godzilla had devoured the equipment of several hundred people clean. Altogether, the stuff weighed at least two thousand pounds—nearly a ton. That might sound like a lot, but it really was not. After all, nearly everyone present was a paladin. A knight's suit of plate armor alone weighed at least thirty or forty pounds. The people of this world were far stronger physically than people in the real world, so wearing dozens of kilograms was no big deal.
All that stuff was dragged into the flesh mass by its tentacles, yet the mass did not change at all, as if none of it had happened.
Like Solam, everyone else was somewhat dumbfounded. This thing had eaten so much metal, yet nothing happened to it. Fortunately, it seemed to have finally had its fill and did not extend more tentacles to snatch metal. Otherwise, Solam truly would not have known how to satisfy it. He had already given it every bit of metal he could gather. As for the possessions of the dead, the paladins refused to let Solam touch them. Even though much of
