Not only that, the burly man struggled to his feet, a gaping hole in his chest as though he had been struck by an overwhelmingly powerful force.
As he spat blood, he kept coughing up pieces of his internal organs.
Then, a horrifying scene unfolded.
The burly man's face twisted with terror. Under the agony of being carved apart by a thousand cuts, his body seemed to split open from within. In the end, he exploded into a cloud of blood mist.
"That kid's a freak! Run!"
Someone's scalp prickled with fear. He made a snap decision and shouted.
The other Quanxing members immediately tensed, as if facing a formidable enemy.
But they could hardly believe it...
Aside from Zuo Ruotong, there was someone in the Sanyi Sect with such astonishing strength.
With a mere gesture, he had killed one of Quanxing's capable fighters.
More importantly, they hadn't seen when Du Yang had struck—not once.
That meant the gap between them was immense.
They might act recklessly in their usual dealings, but every one of them was sharp in his own way.
Against an opponent this terrifying, they had to flee at once.
If they charged forward blindly to avenge their comrade, they'd be doomed.
They poured every ounce of strength into circulating their qi, then bolted out of the inn at full speed, running for their lives.
Du Yang remained expressionless. Without seeming to hurry, he took a single step forward.
When faced with mortal danger, people could unleash tremendous potential.
With such a terrifying figure chasing them, the Quanxing members seemed to move their qi with uncanny ease. They ran even faster than they could at full speed on an ordinary day.
They knew all too well that if he caught them, they were dead.
The bitter north wind swept up dead grass and flecks of snow as it blew past an abandoned Public Mortuary outside the city.
Amid the crumbling walls, several oddly dressed people leaned on their knees or the walls, panting heavily.
Fear filled every face, as if they'd seen a ghost.
These were the Quanxing members Du Yang had been hunting.
"We've come far enough, right? That kid can't catch up now," a sharp-featured man asked in a trembling voice.
Their bodies shook uncontrollably.
They couldn't have imagined that just an hour ago, after downing a few bowls of strong liquor, they'd been shouting and cursing, spewing every kind of obscenity at Immortal Daying and the Sanyi Sect, even boasting that they'd flatten the place—and that it would bring this kind of disaster down on them.
Thinking back on it now, the young man who'd chased them had a calmness about his eyes and brows. He was no ordinary person.
With a single strike—one they hadn't even seen coming—he'd sent a fighter who was fairly well-known even among Quanxing flying. The man hadn't even managed a groan before he was spewing up his organs, his bones and sinews shattered. He was clearly as good as dead.
The abandoned Public Mortuary was as silent as a grave.
No one dared even take a breath.
"Damn it, where did that kid come from? He's brutal," another man spat, still shaken. "He does seem to use techniques from the Sanyi Sect."
"Who cares where he came from? Once I catch my breath, I'll go back and round up the brothers. We'll carve him into a thousand pieces."
The third man hadn't even finished his threat when his voice abruptly cut off.
Everyone froze and turned to look in the same direction.
Beneath the shadow of the Public Mortuary's ruined gate tower, a figure stood there. No one knew when he'd arrived.
His blue cotton robe stirred gently in the cold wind. His expression was calm. It was the young man from the inn.
He seemed to have strolled over at his leisure, without a speck of dust on him. There was no wind around him, yet his robe billowed of its own accord. He looked like an immortal descended from the heavens.
How could he be here?
How could he have arrived so quickly?
What kind of monster was he?!
For a moment, the Quanxing members' minds went completely blank.
"Ghost!" The sharp-featured man's nerve finally broke.
They were Quanxing members who had done every kind of murderous deed, but they'd never seen anyone so ghostlike.
"Fight him!"
One of them reacted fastest. Knowing there was no point begging for mercy, he let a fierce glint flash in his eyes and shouted.
The others quickly regained their composure. They decided to stake everything on one fight and roared as they circulated their qi.
In an instant, lights of every color flared.
Blade energy, sword qi, poisoned concealed weapons—all of it came flying at the young man.
At the same time, nearly all of them raised their guns and fired at him.
Dust billowed. Splinters flew.
But the next sight left every attacker numb with shock.
As the dust began to settle, they saw the young man surrounded by a layer of white radiance formed from qi.
His feet had left the ground. He hovered more than half a foot in the air, his sleeves fluttering as clear qi swirled around him. He truly looked like an immortal descending into the mortal world.
Only this immortal brought death.
The young man hadn't even taken a defensive stance. He simply hovered there, looking at them with detached eyes, as if they were ants struggling in vain.
"Triple Inverse Life! It's Triple Inverse Life!"
At last, someone recognized it as the ultimate realm Sanyi Sect disciples pursued so desperately.
At last, they understood just how terrifying a person they'd provoked.
Unfortunately, they'd realized it too late.
The young man moved.
He joined his fingers like a sword and lightly pointed into the air.
A beam of white light, so concentrated it seemed solid, instantly pierced a man between the brows.
The ferocity in the man's eyes had not yet faded when it froze in place. He toppled straight backward.
The young man blurred and appeared before the sharp-featured man like a ghost. As the man stared at him in terror, he lightly pressed a palm against his chest.
The man's chest visibly caved in. His blood came spraying out with bits of his internal organs, and he was sent flying into a mud wall, bringing it down.
The young man's steps seemed unhurried, his movements even slow. Yet every light tap or gentle point of his finger claimed a life.
Screams rose and fell through the abandoned Public Mortuary, then quickly faded into silence.
The last man was struck by a blast of qi from midair and sent flying. He crashed hard into the ruined plaque in the main hall. The plaque snapped with a crack, and it fell to the ground along with him. He made no sound again.
Du Yang slowly descended, the white radiance around him drawing back into his body.
He stood amid the scattered corpses, expressionless as he surveyed the scene, as if he'd done nothing more than a trivial task.
The cold wind continued to blow, carrying the stench of blood.
Du Yang raised his head and glanced in the general direction of the Sanyi Sect. There was no trace of complacency in the depths of his eyes.
Quanxing had countless members, and more than a few were formidable. How could they all be thugs who relied on brute force?
Now that they knew his master was dead, they might not all come at once, but most of them would converge on the Sanyi Sect.
Taking care of a few "grasshoppers" along the way was nothing.
The crisis facing the Sanyi Sect now could probably only be resolved by someone with transcendent abilities.
