Background / History

The Sanyi Sect is an ancient orthodox sect whose central inheritance is the Triple Inverse Life, a body-and-spirit cultivation method believed by generations of disciples to offer a path to immortality. Its philosophy is summarized as: “following the path makes one mortal, reversing it makes one an immortal.” 5

Under Sect Master Zuo Ruotong, the Daying Immortal and one of the two pinnacles of the righteous path, the sect held enormous prestige. Zuo's integrity also created many enemies among the Outsiders, leaving the sect exposed once he was gone. 2 21

Zuo Ruotong used Wu Gensheng's assistance to attain the third stage of Triple Inverse Life, only to learn that the art could not grant immortality. He then broke his cultivation, ceased circulating his profound energy, and voluntarily died. Wu Gensheng and Li Muxuan were not responsible for killing him, though Li Muxuan's decision to bring Wu to the mountain set the tragedy in motion. 25 27 28

The truth initially remained concealed because revealing the failure of Triple Inverse Life to grant immortality threatened the sect's thousand-year foundation. Sichong and other disciples instead pursued revenge against Quanxing, escalating the conflict while Quanxing factions began hunting Sanyi disciples and planning the sect's destruction. 23 25 26

At Dragon Tiger Mountain, Du Yang publicly disclosed the truth of Zuo Ruotong's death despite the damage it could do to the sect's standing. He also accepted sole responsibility for the Sanyi Sect's killings of Quanxing members, preventing the dispute from being framed as a simple revenge campaign by the entire sect. 27

Triple Inverse Life

The Sanyi Sect's signature art cultivates both life and essence. “Life” encompasses vitality, lifespan, body, flesh, and material existence; “essence” encompasses temperament, consciousness, spirit, will, and other intangible qualities. 3

Doctrine and Limitations

• Triple Inverse Life differs from conventional orthodox Taoist practices by beginning from the third stage of “refining spirit into emptiness,” emphasizing the realization of existence from void and the construction of a system from nothingness. 5
• Its complete form allows the practitioner to transform their body into Primordial Qi, making conventional physical and energy-based attacks ineffective or able to pass through them. 5 25
• The sect's inherited belief that the art leads to immortality is false. Zuo Ruotong's discovery of this truth led directly to his death and the sect's crisis. 3 23 27
• The revelation undermines the central goal pursued by generations of Sanyi Sect disciples. 23 27

Notable Members

• Zuo Ruotong / Daying Immortal — Former Sect Master; one of the two pinnacles of the righteous path. He voluntarily died after discovering that Triple Inverse Life could not achieve immortality. 2 25 27
• Du Yang — Disciple of Zuo Ruotong and the sect's most gifted member of his generation. He reached the third stage of Triple Inverse Life, protected senior disciples from Quanxing, and publicly clarified the truth of his master's death. 2 3 24 27
• Sichong — Senior member with the highest cultivation and seniority in the sect after Zuo Ruotong's death. He was consumed by the desire to avenge his senior brother and preserve the sect's reputation. 23 27

Story Role / Major Arcs

Crisis after Zuo Ruotong's Death

The sect loses its master and protective pillar, becoming a target for opportunistic Outsiders and Quanxing members. Its remaining disciples fear that without another pinnacle-level figure, the Sanyi Sect will eventually cease to exist. 2 21

Quanxing Retaliation

Sichong and Chengzhen enter Quanxing territory seeking Wu Gensheng. Du Yang joins them, takes responsibility for defending them, and kills the Quanxing attackers who swarm the courtyard. 23 24 25

Dragon Tiger Mountain Confrontation

With righteous sects and Quanxing assembled, Du Yang represents the Sanyi Sect, reveals the truth of Zuo Ruotong's voluntary death, and exposes the inability of Triple Inverse Life to produce immortality. He then confronts Quanxing alone to prevent his fellow disciples from bearing the consequences of the conflict. 26 27

Li Muxuan's Death

Du Yang confronts Li Muxuan after suppressing Quanxing. Li realizes his culpability in the disaster surrounding the Sanyi Sect and willingly enters Du Yang's white Qi, dissipating himself. 28
