Background
Konoha is the village in which Uchiha Du Yang resides after transmigrating into the Naruto world. Its Uchiha Compound stands within the village, where the clan faces the impending Night of the Massacre 1.
The village was jointly founded by the First and Uchiha Madara. However, the Uchiha's relationship with Konoha deteriorated over generations: the clan was assigned to the Military Police Force, excluded from central authority, and subjected to surveillance and suppression by the village leadership and Root 30 42.
After the Nine-Tails Incident, Konoha's leadership suspected the Uchiha of involvement without evidence. This distrust, alongside restrictions on the Military Police Force and the influence of Shimura Danzō, becomes the basis for Uchiha Fugaku's planned coup 30.
Government and Military
- Hiruzen Sarutobi — The Third and Konoha's supreme leader during the Uchiha crisis. He initially favors negotiation and reconciliation over Danzō's proposed purge 29 41.
- Shimura Danzō — Hokage advisor and Root leader. He considers the Uchiha an irreconcilable threat, had ordered Itachi to exterminate the clan, and later advocates executing the Uchiha delegation and cleansing their compound 29 42.
- Anbu — Elite force directly commanded by the Hokage. Five Anbu squads surround the Uchiha delegation after Hiruzen rejects their withdrawal; each squad is led by a captain and supported by veteran and special jōnin 43.
- Root — Danzō's covert faction. Its members take positions during the confrontation with the Uchiha and join the attempted attack on Du Yang's group 42 43.
- Jiraiya and Tsunade — Two of the Sannin who arrive to support Hiruzen and Danzō during the Uchiha evacuation operation 44.
Uchiha Crisis
Following Itachi Uchiha's disappearance, Konoha's leadership recognizes that the Uchiha may possess an unknown powerful combatant. Hiruzen pauses Danzō's purge plan out of concern that a premature attack could trigger greater repercussions 29.
After Fugaku's death, Uchiha Qiantang, Yashiro, Inabi, and Du Yang meet Hiruzen at the Hokage Building. Du Yang announces that he is the acting Uchiha clan head and formally declares the clan's withdrawal from Konoha, including the dissolution of its alliances, obligations, and subordinate ties to the village 41 42.
Hiruzen refuses to permit the Uchiha to leave, treating their departure as rebellion. He mobilizes the Anbu to force the delegation's submission, while Danzō calls for their immediate execution and a purge of the Uchiha Compound 42 43.
Uchiha–Konoha Conflict
Du Yang uses his Mangekyō Sharingan's Cicada Song to resurrect Itachi and Fugaku, altering their memories so that both hate Konoha, Hiruzen, and Danzō 43.
While the revived Uchiha and other clan fighters delay Anbu forces, most of the clan evacuates through forged identities, underground passages, drainage outlets, and waterways connected to the Naka River 44 46. Du Yang contains Hiruzen, Danzō, Jiraiya, Tsunade, and Anbu squads in order to buy the evacuation time 44 45.
Du Yang eventually manifests a Complete Body Susanoo above Konoha. The construct destroys the Hokage Building and devastates parts of the village, causing widespread terror among civilians and ninja alike 46 47.
Aftermath
Hiruzen is mortally wounded during the confrontation. Before dying, he publicly accuses Danzō of colluding with the Uchiha and ambushing him, an accusation created through Du Yang's manipulation 47.
The accusation divides Konoha's forces between Danzō's supporters—primarily Root members and ninja loyal to him—and those who believe the late Hokage's final words. With no accepted leader and no unified command, the village fails to organize an effective pursuit of the Uchiha 48.
The Uchiha Clan successfully evacuates. By morning, their former district along the Naka River is empty, leaving Konoha in grief, suspicion, fear, and political paralysis 48.
