Biodata

Background and History

Hanzo’s strength allowed Amegakure to remain independent between larger nations. He fought Jiraiya, Orochimaru, and Tsunade together and bestowed on them the name “Sannin.” His reputation endured, although age and years of isolation diminished his power 154 372 391 561.

Hanzo initially allowed the pacifist Akatsuki to operate in the Land of Rain. After trusting Shimura Danzō’s claims, he turned against the organization and forced its leader Yahiko to take his own life. He later said he had not killed Akatsuki’s other members. The resulting conflict devastated the Land of Rain and became a source of lasting regret 159 161 162 501.

When Arata Uchiha arrived with Konoha’s alliance letter, Hanzo revealed a trap arranged with Danzō: Arata could submit and be reported dead, or die. Arata defeated him instead. Hanzo accepted Arata’s authority but retained day-to-day leadership of Amegakure, withdrew his forces from the civil conflict, and agreed that his followers could seek Arata’s protection when he could no longer provide it 157 158 159.

Years later, Hanzo sent 1,245 Amegakure ninja to Arata in the Land of Hot Water. He subsequently ordered his nine remaining elites to escort Amegakure’s younger generation out of the country. Staying behind to draw Akatsuki’s attention, he was cornered and killed by Pain and Konan after his followers escaped 404 464 501.

Arata recalled Hanzo’s soul through Impure World Reincarnation. Hanzo recognized the technique and continued to honor their agreement. When other reanimated Amegakure ninja were later released, he chose to remain bound so he could protect his followers and watch his homeland recover 503 764.

Appearance

In life, Hanzo was a burly man with long off-white hair. He wore Amegakure armor and a breathing mask 157.

Personality

Hanzo was once proud of his title and deeply concerned with maintaining his position. He guarded his residence heavily and tried to exploit Arata’s strength against Akatsuki. Even after recognizing Arata’s talent, he chose to fight him for Amegakure 157 158.

Defeat led Hanzo to acknowledge his mistakes. He rejected further civil war, accepted responsibility for trusting Danzō, and put his followers’ survival ahead of his authority. Their loyalty remained personal and intense, but he ordered them away rather than let them die beside him 159 161 391 464.

Abilities and Skills

Poison Techniques

• Hanzo could release poison gas, including a wide-ranging attack dangerous to ordinary shinobi. Arata blocked his concealed poison during their duel 158 372.
• In his final fight, Hanzo refrained from using his poison gas so that his fleeing followers could escape 501.

Water Release

• Hanzo was a master of Water Release. Water Style: Exploding Water Colliding Wave flooded much of the hall during his battle with Arata 158.

Speed and Summoning

• Hanzo used a one-handed seal for Body Flicker Technique while evading Arata’s attack 158.
• He summoned Ibuse, a giant salamander capable of absorbing heavy blows and releasing poisonous mist. Ibuse later helped prepare an underground escape route for Amegakure’s forces 158 391.

Equipment and Companions

• Chained weapon — Used against Arata; Hanzo later let it fall when he ceased resisting Pain 158 501.
