Background / History

Naro was born to two ordinary Uchiha genin whose Sharingan had only one tomoe. His father was away on a mission during his birth, while his mother delivered him alone during heavy snowfall. Shortly after birth, Naro's infant soul fused with the souls of two beings named Zhang Hongchen: a demonic cultivator from a collapsing Great Thousand World and a terminally ill orphan from another world. The demonic cultivator's consciousness became the primary one, while the other two souls manifested through Naro's dōjutsu. 7 8

The fusion gave Naro the memories, cultivation methods, ruthlessness, and spatial affinity of the demonic cultivator, alongside the mortal Zhang Hongchen's pain, attachment to life, and residual humanity. It also awakened his Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan, whose left and right eyes became Heavenly Amenominakanushi and Heavenly Eternal Presence respectively. 7 8

Naro's parents disappeared on a border patrol when he was one month old. He secretly used supernatural powers to retrieve and preserve their bodies and souls, then performed a rite at age four that sent them into reincarnation. During the rite, the world conveyed a request to him: induce calamity and purge the world. 8

He attended the Ninja Academy from age six while concealing his true abilities behind average grades and an unremarkable reputation. At nine, he was forcibly graduated during the Third Shinobi World War and assigned to Tsunade's medical corps in the Land of Rain. Tsunade taught him medical ninjutsu, and he mastered the basic Mystical Palm Technique in under a month. He later spent over a year on the front lines while hiding both his Sharingan and mana. 8

Following the war, Naro joined the Uchiha Police Force and continued cultivating in obscurity. His deliberately inconspicuous position allowed him to acquire Uchiha Shisui's corpse and soul after Shisui's death, as well as Hashirama Cells researched by Root, without attracting attention. 8

Appearance

Naro is a young Uchiha man with dark hair, sharp features, and blood-red Sharingan. He commonly presents himself with a calm, refined bearing, even when handling matters that terrify veteran shinobi. 7 13 20

He can discuss death, revenge, and the suffering of others with an unsettling calm, and he is willing to manipulate people into confronting painful truths if it advances his objectives. His arrangement with Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Nagato was built around their personal regrets, ambitions, and desires. 1 13 15

Despite his detachment, Naro is not wholly without compassion. He honored his parents by sending them into reincarnation and continues to commemorate them. He also condemns a ninja world in which nobles and shinobi exploit civilians, arguing that everyone deserves an opportunity to survive. 8 12 15

He prefers preparation and indirect influence over open displays of power. Throughout his Academy, wartime, and Police Force years, he cultivated an intentionally mediocre image so that he could act without suspicion. 8

Naro watches the Uchiha massacre while introducing the dead and dying clansmen to Shisui's spirit. He deliberately drives Shisui toward vengeance and leaves Konoha with surviving companions, intending to deliver another “grand gift” to the village. 1 4

Intelligence Leak and Capital Sanctuary

Using the Bounty Exchange, Naro arranges for intelligence scrolls to be delivered across the Five Great Shinobi Nations and other hidden villages. In the Land of Fire's capital, he shelters Mikoto and Sasuke in a noble estate whose residents have been made to overlook their occupied section. 7

Hope of the Ninja World

At the ruins of the Land of Whirlpools, Naro convenes Tsunade, Orochimaru, and Nagato. He reveals his understanding of the Pure Land, reincarnation, Indra and Asura's reincarnations, and the malformed state of the ninja world before offering them the Method of National Fortune. 13 14 15

Beast Tamer Program

After Mikoto, Sasuke, and Karin return from Takigakure, Naro gives Matatabi to Sasuke and Kokuō to Karin. He frames Beast Taming as a partnership of mutual recognition rather than a jinchūriki's relationship of exploitation and containment. 20 21

New Arrangements

Naro allows Sasuke and Mikoto to leave and act freely, while giving Sasuke knowledge of ninjutsu, sealing, genjutsu-breaking, and physical techniques. He then sends Karin to establish the Juexin Sect in the Land of Waves, with Han and Yugito assigned as her protectors. 28
