Background and History
Ye Fan begins as an ordinary young man from a place without cultivation. While visiting an ancient mountain with his companions, he encounters nine dead dragons pulling a bronze coffin. An unseen force draws the group toward it. Ye Fan is pulled inside, briefly sees a smaller black coffin within its vast interior, and later emerges with his companions in the Eastern Wilderness of the Big Dipper Star Domain 107 108 109 110.
A local recognizes Ye Fan’s Ancient Sacred Body, a once-powerful physique now widely believed incapable of producing a Great Emperor. It gives Ye Fan formidable physical strength, but its rigidity prevents ordinary cultivation methods from drawing spiritual energy into him. After repeated failures, he uses a technique from the bronze coffin to begin cultivating 110 111 112.
Seeking a place to cultivate, Ye Fan enters the Primordial Sacred Land. Its bronze-mirror imperial weapon responds to him, but the sect’s elders secretly plan to draw his blood essence to nourish it. Ye Fan overhears them, reaches the mirror’s guarded chamber, and touches it. The mirror acknowledges him as its master and shields him from attacking elders; the sect master then allows him to leave with it 113 114 115 116.
Possession of the mirror makes Ye Fan a target across the Eastern Wilderness. While evading pursuit and continuing to cultivate, he later takes Ji Ziyue from a marriage arranged by her clan. They escape together and hide in Hundred Python Ridge. At Chaos Stone Town, he obtains divine source containing a living Primordial Remnant, attracting another group of attackers 116 117 118 119.
Su Chen’s account of Ye Fan’s later life describes him overcoming the shackles of the Ancient Sacred Body and becoming the Heavenly Emperor 20 53 54.
Appearance
Ye Fan initially looks unremarkable: he is of average height, has regular features, and does not stand out in a crowd 108.
- Blood — Golden in Su Chen’s description of his developed Sacred Body 54.
- Physique — His body becomes exceptionally hard as the Sacred Body develops 54.
Personality
Ye Fan refuses to accept the judgment that his physique makes cultivation impossible. When ordinary methods fail, he seeks another path; when the Primordial Sacred Land’s hospitality proves to be a trap, he neither submits nor simply flees, but goes after the weapon at its center 111 112 114 115.
He protects his companions, stepping between a classmate and a hostile sect disciple despite having no cultivation at the time. He is also observant and guarded: he notices the Sacred Land elders’ concealed intentions without revealing his suspicions 110 114.
Abilities and Skills
Ancient Sacred Body
- Physical strength — Before he can cultivate, a punch sends a sect disciple flying into an earthen wall 110 111.
- Durability — Later blocks a spiritual blade with his forearm, causing the attack to shatter 119.
- Cultivation barrier — Its unusual toughness initially prevents spiritual energy from entering his body through ordinary methods 111.
Cultivation
- Bronze-coffin technique — Allows Ye Fan to draw in spiritual energy where beginner methods fail; he continues using it as he travels 112 113.
- Physical combat — After training in Hundred Python Ridge, he relies on his fists rather than reveal his imperial weapon during a fight in Chaos Stone Town 119.
Bronze-Mirror Imperial Weapon
- Recognition and protection — The mirror chooses Ye Fan and raises a barrier that repels attacks from Primordial Sacred Land elders 115 116.
- Limited use — At the Ji Clan estate, Ye Fan can release a strand of its lingering ancestral will, but lacks the cultivation to wield its full power or keep using it continuously 117.
- Risk of exposure — Its conspicuous power draws attention, leading Ye Fan to avoid using it in Chaos Stone Town 116 119.
Equipment and Items
- Bronze mirror — An imperial weapon formerly guarded by the Primordial Sacred Land; it acknowledges Ye Fan as its master 113 115 116.
- Divine source — Found inside a Source Stone, containing a living Primordial Remnant; Ye Fan carries it away when others attempt to seize it 119.
Relationships
- Ji Ziyue — Ye Fan takes her from an arranged wedding. She helps them escape and later fights beside him; after leaving her clan, she is the only person by his side in Chaos Stone Town 117 118 119.
- His classmates and companions — Share the journey in the bronze coffin. Ye Fan protects one classmate when a sect disciple attacks her 108 109 110.
- Primordial Sacred Land — Its weapon chooses Ye Fan, while some elders intend to use his blood essence to nourish it. The sect master ultimately lets him leave with the mirror 113 114 115 116.
- Primordial Remnant — A creature found within Ye Fan’s divine source; it remains with him as others seek to take it 119.
