Background and History

The Qi Family entrenched itself around Ba Dong Town and the Black Refined Iron Ore Vein for over a century. At its height, it paid a portion of its profits to the Soul Devouring Sect, but its decline allowed the sect to station personnel at the mine and take direct control of the vein. Despite its weakened position, the family remained the dominant local Qi Refining force. 31

Behind its compliant exterior, the main lineage concealed an ultra-small subsidiary Spirit Stone vein beneath the Black Iron Essence Mine. Over several generations, it used that vein's spiritual energy to construct the Nine Yin Gathering Evil Vein Termination Array, an illicit formation that damaged the mine and secretly siphoned its energy. 32 33 41

The family’s long-term objective was the creation of Blood Fetus Ghost Infants with Foundation Establishment-level combat power. Its scheme involved at least five Flesh and Blood Demon Pools, Extreme Yin women, sacrificial victims, and the souls of its own high-level cultivators; the latter suffered karmic backlash so severe that their souls could not enter reincarnation. 40 41 43

The main lineage also abducted miners, replacing the workforce roughly every half year and refining those near death. It imprisoned and tortured a True Disciple of the Little Five Elements Sword Sect in an underground chamber in an attempt to force out that sect’s inheritances. 33 48 49

When Zheng Yi arrived to investigate discrepancies in ore reports, he exposed the array and the concealed spirit vein. Qi Yuanzong and the other main-line leaders attempted to kill him and silence all witnesses, but Zheng Yi defeated them with the Soul Devouring Banner. 32 33 35

Fall of the Main Lineage

• Zheng Yi eliminated the Qi Family’s main-line leadership and direct descendants after uncovering its mine-vein embezzlement, forbidden formations, and attempted murder of a Soul Devouring Sect envoy. 35 36
• Qi Lin, formerly a disregarded collateral-line mine supervisor, accepted Zheng Yi’s offer to become patriarch and pledged the family’s obedience to him. 36 37
• Under Qi Lin, the family purged the former ruling branch and its close associates; fewer than thirty percent of the original family members remained afterward. 47
• Zheng Yi and Qi Lin used Spirit Stones, hospitality, and documentary evidence of the dead main lineage’s crimes to end a sect investigation without further consequences. 54
• The main lineage had prepared a hidden bloodline branch in Secluded Central City under altered identities. Its designated heir, Qi Shengyuan, was ultimately killed, and Zheng Yi eliminated the remaining hidden-lineage members. 62 65 66

After Zheng Yi later departed the Da Yi Immortal Domain, Qi Lin passed stewardship of the estate through his descendants. By the time Zheng Yi returned, Qi Lin’s grandson still guarded the former lord’s estate and maintained Zheng Yi’s portrait in its main hall. 446
