History

The Soul Devouring Banner was originally a mass-produced, low-grade artifact distributed by the Soul Devouring Sect to Outer Sect disciples. Zheng Yi received it alongside the Black Fiend Technique, then blood-bound it before entering the Apocalyptic World to rebuild his cultivation through refined souls. 2

Its first major growth came from the Apocalyptic World's abundant ghost resources. Zheng Yi used it to harvest carrion-crow souls, then gathered and forced hundreds of Vengeful Spirits to devour one another within its internal yin-soul space. The surviving forty-nine spirits formed its initial peak configuration, led by the Blood Fiend-quality Red-Clothed Female Ghost. 2 5 6

After escaping three Hundred-Year Azure Ghosts, Zheng Yi refined the banner into a Lifebound Artifact. This permanently linked it to his vital blood, mana, heart meridians, and soul, while allowing it to provide cultivation feedback. Its growth repeatedly outpaced its physical vessel, requiring Earth Soul Silver, secret talismans, Lotus Silver Ore Matrix, bone essence, and human skin to prevent the contained ghosts from breaking free. 9 29 36 73 101

The artifact eventually developed beyond a conventional Soul Devouring Sect banner. It became the White Bone Soul Devouring Banner, later a Thousand Soul Banner and a Nine-Tailed Ghost King Banner.
