Background and History

Nuwa creates the first humans at Mount Shouyang from Nine Heavens Breathing Soil and Three Lights Divine Water, using the Innate Gourd Vine in the creation of the race. She gives them the Innate Dao Body, modeled on Pangu's form. The first human is born with spiritual awareness and greets Nuwa as “Holy Mother”; Nuwa then creates both male and female humans. The Heavenly Dao rewards the founding of the race with merit, and Nuwa becomes a Sage 142.

Nuwa's lingering holy might protects the young race for ten thousand years. During that interval, its population expands and its people develop ways to meet their needs for food, clothing, and shelter. Laozi later establishes the Human Sect and teaches cultivation, giving humans a means of self-defense 152 157 168.

When the protection ends, the Demon Race invades to harvest human essence, blood, and souls for a weapon against the Witch Clan. Ziwei and the Human Race's concealed experts repel the attack. The victory exposes a strength that other powers had not expected from a race less than ten thousand years old 183 186 190.

Ziwei is raised from leader to Human Emperor by human experts and tribes. After his abdication, his decree leaves the Kongtong Seal on Mount Shouyang: a candidate must be human, overcome its 108 guardians, and claim the seal to become the next emperor. Competition for the position accelerates cultivation but also brings disputes between tribes 281 285 286 293.

Human society later develops from tribes into kingdoms. Ziwei allows the kingdoms room to govern themselves and permits powerful beings reincarnated as humans to remain, intervening chiefly to prevent upheavals that could threaten the race 384.

Appearance

The first humans are born in the Innate Dao Body: the physical form Nuwa chose as the model for a race naturally suited to cultivating the Dao 142.

Cultivation

• Human cultivation begins with Refining Essence into Qi, Refining Qi into Spirit, Refining Spirit into Emptiness, and Refining Emptiness into the Dao. Together, these contain nine major realms and thirty-six minor realms below Human Immortal 157.
• Most humans initially cultivate at modest levels. Exceptional figures such as Ziwei progress far faster than their peers 168.
• The race's rising fortune can accelerate cultivation, particularly for those with higher realms or greater standing among humans 309.

Grand Formations

• Grand Stellar Array — Human experts jointly deploy stellar banners corresponding to 365 primary stars and 14,800 secondary stars. Its manifested Sun Star phantom devastates the Demon army and contests the Five Elements Formation 211 212.
• Primordial River-Luo Array — The humans also deploy an array through the River Map and Luo Scroll, revealing their backing from Di Jun 215.

Equipment and Treasures

• Qilin Seal — Wielded by Ziwei during the Demon Race invasion; after absorbing Human Race providence, it helps him and the human experts defeat the attacking great demons 187 188.
• Kongtong Seal — The orthodox treasure tied to Human Race fortune. After Haotian uses it to claim authority over the humans, Ziwei places it under guard as the test for his successor 193 206 285.
• Stellar Banners — Supplied by Ziwei to human experts for the Grand Stellar Array 211.

Relationships

• Nuwa — Creator and “Holy Mother” of the race; her holy might shelters its earliest generations 142 152.
• Ziwei — Human Emperor and central defender of the race; he organizes its formations, safeguards the succession, and later confers Human Path Sagehood 187 212 281 285 459.
• Di Jun and Tai Yi — Golden Crow allies who support Ziwei against the Sages 323.
• Demon Race — Invades to use human remains against the Witch Clan; its forces are defeated by human defenders 183 186 190.
• Dragon Clan — A potential rival after Hongjun assigns the humans dominion over the seas, prompting Ziwei to pursue relations rather than immediately wage war 221 235.

Human Path

The Human Path is not limited to the Human Race: it encompasses living beings of the Primordial World, including humans, witches, and demons. Nevertheless, the race's growing fortune and Ziwei's position as Human Emperor become central to its awakening 286 323. Ziwei subsequently identifies himself with the Human Path and states that other qualified races, including the Dragon Clan, can receive its Sagehood 376.

Houtu's Earthly Dao later devours the Human Path. Its disappearance causes Ziwei and the other Human Path Sages to lose the cultivation gained through that status 462 464.
