Background / History

Kakashi is appointed to lead the unusual four-person Team 7—Naruto Uzumaki, Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and Ling Xuan. His initial impression of the team is “terrible,” though he immediately takes interest in the extra member, Ling Xuan. Behind his languid manner, he remains highly alert and calculating. 19

He conducts Team 7’s bell survival exercise to test whether its members can cooperate rather than pursue individual success. Kakashi easily overwhelms Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura, but Ling Xuan organizes the team into a coordinated operation that secures all three bells.
