Background / History

Konoha survives the Nine-Tails' attack at the cost of Fourth Hokage Minato Namikaze and Kushina Uzumaki. The village enters a difficult reconstruction period marked by grief and devastation, with surviving orphans—including Ling Xuan—placed in the Konoha Orphanage. 1 2

Its Ninja Academy trains the new generation through foundational ninjutsu, assessments, and simulated combat. The village library maintains restricted collections on ninjutsu, history, and theory, accessible only through special authorization. 2 9 14 15

During the Chunin Exams, Konoha is invaded through Orochimaru's Konoha Crush Plan. The Third Hokage, Hiruzen Sarutobi, dies after using the Dead Demon Consuming Seal against Orochimaru, leaving the village politically unstable. 57 58 64

Konoha Crush and succession crisis

Orochimaru's attack places Konoha under siege during the Chunin Exam finals. The Sound Four isolate Hiruzen with the Four Violet Flames Formation while invading forces attack throughout the village. 57 58

Hiruzen's death fractures the balance among Konoha's clans, advisors, and Root. Jiraiya is dispatched to locate Tsunade, whose appointment as Fifth Hokage restores formal leadership. 64 68

Scientific and military expansion

Tsunade authorizes Ling Xuan's Biological Truth Laboratory and its access to medical resources, research personnel, and S-rank clearances. The laboratory develops military applications, intelligence systems, experimental weapons, and advanced sealing research for Konoha. 72 73 81

Following the defeat of the Village of the Bloody Mist, Konoha absorbs its intelligence networks, funds, Kekkei Genkai research material, and fortress site, establishing Laboratory No. 2 in the Land of Water. 103

Fortress Project and Akatsuki assault

After receiving intelligence that Akatsuki is preparing a full-scale assault, Konoha is converted into a fortified battlefield under Ling Xuan's Fortress Project. The Hyuga provide village-wide surveillance, the Nara coordinate tactical information, and the laboratory supplies specialized tools and sealing scrolls. 136

When the Six Paths of Pain invade, Konoha's barriers redirect much of Deva Path's Shinra Tensei into the ground. The Heavenly Eye network tracks the individual Paths and directs combat units to their assigned zones. 137 138

Following the battle, Ling Xuan disbands Anbu and Root and centralizes Konoha's intelligence, command, and enforcement functions within Heavenly Eye. 145

Fourth Shinobi World War
