Background / History

Itachi was conceived as the biological son of Uchiha Fugaku and Uchiha Mikoto. Before his birth, Akatsuki—Fugaku's adopted eldest son—was struck by the contrast between the unborn child and the feared future figure he remembered, but still admitted that he liked Itachi. Mikoto told Akatsuki that the baby reacted to his presence. 5

During Mikoto's prenatal examination, she asked Akatsuki to protect the coming child. Akatsuki reluctantly promised that he would protect his younger brother, aware of the weight such a promise could carry. 12

Itachi was born near noon after Mikoto's difficult labor. Fugaku named him “Itachi,” and Mikoto placed the newborn in Akatsuki's arms, formally introducing him as Akatsuki's little brother. 14

Akatsuki initially avoided Itachi out of fear of the future he associated with him. After confiding in Shisui, however, he chose to accept his role as Itachi's older brother and began caring for him directly. 15 16

As Itachi grew, Mikoto frequently entrusted him to Akatsuki while she resumed missions. He learned to crawl, roll over, make simple sounds, and showed a strong preference for being held by Akatsuki. 18

Appearance

Itachi is introduced as a newborn, small enough to be held in one arm and wrapped tightly in swaddling clothes. At birth, his features are scrunched together and his body curls instinctively beneath the cloth. 14

Personality

As an infant, Itachi is still developing self-awareness and cannot yet communicate beyond cries and simple sounds. He is notably attached to Akatsuki, calming down when held close to him and protesting when someone else—such as Obito—tries to take over his care. 16 18

He is also observant and curious for his age. In the Uchiha secret chamber, he reached toward Murasame before Akatsuki could take it; afterward, he touched Akatsuki's wounded arm with concern. 19

Abilities & Skills

Uchiha Bloodline Recognition

Itachi's presence in the Uchiha secret chamber is treated as proof that his bloodline has been recognized by the chamber's safeguards. Cat Granny states that this recognition means he, like Akatsuki, was eligible to claim a weapon from its collection. 19

Itachi's impending birth forces Akatsuki to confront his fear of the future. His birth becomes the turning point that leads Akatsuki to stop treating him as a threat and begin acting as his brother. 13 14 16

Itachi's dependence on Akatsuki shapes Akatsuki's daily life, limiting his training time and giving him responsibility within the Clan Head household. Their bond becomes especially visible when Itachi immediately settles in Akatsuki's arms. 16 18

Uchiha Secret Chamber

While Akatsuki investigates an Uchiha Summoning Technique scroll, Itachi is transported with him into the clan's secret weapon chamber. His recognized bloodline establishes that he, too, has access to the chamber's inheritance. 18 19
