Background

Ao Xinghao comes from a family of professors and teachers and is regarded as an academically cultivated genius. Although he routinely sleeps through class, he still achieves top marks; students consider him one of the two Clinical Medicine freshmen they cannot afford to offend. His placement directly in front of Lan Qingxin is also an exception to the department’s grade-based seating arrangement. 16 17

Ao Meng, known among students as the “Little Dragon Maiden,” is his aunt and Lan Qingxin’s mentor. Ao Xinghao is aware of his aunt’s fierce reputation, though he casually reassures Qingxin that she need not fear her. 22

Ao Xinghao is introduced as the feared “Sleeping God” of Clinical Medicine Class 2, waking only to silence the noisy class. Unlike his classmates, he does not lash out when Qingxin makes noise behind him; after the caterpillar prank backfires, he politely asks her for rare Green-Clad Striped larvae and forces Yao Dazhuang to handle the dangerous specimens properly. 16 17 19 20

When Gou Dachun targets Qingxin in class, Ao Xinghao intercepts a thrown piece of chalk and later tries to supply her with the answer to a difficult BMP question. He subsequently introduces himself, shares class gossip, and makes clear that Qingxin’s appearance does not affect his willingness to befriend her. 21 22 23

Investigating Qingxin’s Car Accident
