What exactly were Newtypes?
In fact, long before the Zeon Deikun theory people knew today, the moderates of the Earth Federation had already confirmed, even at the very beginning of the Federation's founding, that Newtypes would appear in the future.
It was just that, at the time, no one could say clearly what Newtypes actually were, but they were also humanity's most fervent hope and blessing for the future.
After that came the Newtypes proposed by Zeon Deikun.
In his theory, he divided humanity into space dwellers and Earth dwellers, and believed that space dwellers who had lived in space for generations, and had grown used to life in space, were Newtypes.
This theory was then inherited by Gihren Zabi, who interpreted it in his own way.
If Zeon Deikun had merely divided humanity into two races to seek legitimacy for the independence of his space dwellers, then Gihren Zabi's Newtype theory added one crucial point.
That was to classify the citizens of the "Principality of Zeon" as Newtypes, while everyone else was an inferior race.
The importance of this point did not lie in developing Newtype theory, but in twisting the meaning of Newtypes across the entire Earth Sphere into something negative.
So much so that the Federation's upper echelons were now unwilling to acknowledge the existence of Newtypes.
Of course, research into Newtypes had never stopped.
As for Major General Gao Yun's question now, there was a certain art to it.
Eli and Amuro were both space dwellers, so he asked whether they were "Deikun" Newtypes.
Eli's answer to that was self-evident.
Eli first signaled for Amuro not to speak and to let him handle it, then answered Gao Yun.
"In the course of the Federation's expansion into space, perhaps the Newtypes the Federation hopes for will appear.
