Background / History

Gao Qiang led the Night Fire Squad, whose members were low-level Warlords while he himself was a mid-level Warlord at the time of the squad's first involvement with Liu Zhendong's campaign against Wang Ji. Liu offered 10 million yuan per participant, but Gao considered the reward insufficient for openly pursuing a rising Limit Martial Hall genius and refused to commit the entire squad. He instead allowed individual members to decide whether to assist Liu. 25

By the later assassination attempt, Gao had advanced to high-level Warlord rank. He accepted Liu Zhendong's 200 million yuan contract to kill Wang Ji, treating the operation as business rather than a personal vendetta. 45

Liu Zhendong's First Attempt

When Liu Zhendong sought help killing Wang Ji, Gao judged the offered payment too low for the risk involved. He declined to deploy the Night Fire Squad as a whole, though he let willing members aid Liu independently. 25

Assassination Ambush

Gao later accepted Liu's 200 million yuan contract and led Warlords in an ambush against Wang Ji. He had the surrounding signals jammed to prevent Wang Ji from recording or transmitting evidence. 45 46

The ambush collapsed almost immediately: Wang Ji killed Gao's accompanying Warlords and Liu Zhendong. Gao fled without hesitation, using an energy-overdrawing secret technique to escape. 46

Intervention and Compensation

After Wang Ji cornered Gao, Ling Changkong intervened in response to Gao's plea for help. Ling determined that Gao had taken money to murder Wang Ji and ruled that Gao must neither retaliate nor bear a grudge. 46 47

Gao agreed to compensate Wang Ji with 2 billion yuan. Unable to pay entirely in cash, he transferred 200 million yuan, equity in Zhongdian Chinese Network, and Roland Culture Publishing Group as settlement. 47
