Early Career

Urahara Kisuke had intervened to convince Aoto to take this role, but Aoto agreed only on the condition that he would pass information exclusively to the Visored, not to Urahara himself, whom he actively disliked. World of the Living Organization

As captain, Aoto created a Human World organization affiliated with the 13th Division. Its purpose was to develop local human defenders, reduce Hollow casualties, and create alternatives to the Quincy power system 70. He personally issued Kugo Ginjō a Substitute Soul Reaper Badge after confirming that Jikichi Sawaki was Ginjō’s father and explaining the obligations of a Substitute Soul Reaper 58.

Aoto substantially upgraded Ginjō’s badge beyond its standard form. Aoto declined an invitation from Squad Zero to become a guardian of the Soul King. Hollowfication and Ascension

During the later conflicts, Aoto’s spiritual pressure broke through its former limit and a Hollow Reiatsu emerged within it. His Hollowfication advanced until the Hollow and Soul Reaper aspects reached a compatible balance, continuing toward the pinnacle of Hollow power 434. By this stage, he could command Garaku Kairo at its full, Bankai-equivalent power against threats such as a false Yhwach 369.

In the war against Yhwach, Aoto temporarily gained the dimensional qualifications needed to confront Yhwach directly by harnessing the power of Soul King Palace. Rather than concentrating all of that power upon himself, he shared the remaining power with the other captains, choosing collective strength over personal advantage 426.

After resolving his conflict with Azashiro Sōya by stripping Azashiro of his Zanpakutō, Aoto declined to pursue further revenge. Garaku Kairo agreed to his ascension, and Aoto became the new Soul King 443. Zanpakutō
