Nature and Origin

Herrschers are leaders born from the Honkai, able to command Honkai creatures, trigger large-scale Honkai events, and wield specialized Authorities. Unlike Honkai Beasts and Mortals, they generally retain human forms despite carrying a Herrscher Core. 211

MOTH's established model after the Eighth Honkai identifies a Herrscher host as a human with high Honkai Energy Adaptability: a Core manifests within the host and transforms them into a Herrscher. 413

• A Herrscher's physical body retains broadly human weaknesses; damage to organs, muscles, and blood vessels still impairs it even when Honkai Energy accelerates recovery. 154 159
• Herrscher Cores cannot be damaged by conventional weapons available to humanity. 154

Authorities and Limitations

Herrscher Authorities

Each Herrscher possesses a distinct Authority: a rule-like expression of Honkai Energy corresponding to an extreme domain. Knowing an Authority is essential to MOTH's counter-strategy development. 137 439

• Authorities can manifest, shape, and extend Honkai Energy into phenomena or objects such as weapons. 439
• A Herrscher's knowledge and imagination influence how flexibly its Authority can be applied; the Third Herrscher's electromagnetic control, for example, could produce numerous natural phenomena. 150
• Authorities are generally limited to their own domains. One Herrscher cannot normally use another's Authority without exceptional circumstances, such as possessing multiple Cores or the special properties of the Herrscher of Reason. 439
• Herrscher power is not limitless. The Third Herrscher had to consider Honkai Energy consumption when using high-output attacks. 16
• Healing damaged flesh also consumes or requires the use of an Authority; preventing that use can leave a Herrscher vulnerable to ordinary injuries. 154 158

Adaptation and Ascension

Most newly born Herrschers experience a window period in which they have not fully mastered their Authority or reached peak Honkai Energy control. They may hide, rely on dependents, or seek Ascension during this period. 413

• The Third and Fourth Herrschers showed gradual growth curves while adapting to their powers. 78
• The Fourth Herrscher spent a month mastering wind fields, city isolation, and destructive tornadoes. 51

Dependents

An Upper-class Honkai Beast may appear as a Herrscher's dependent, protecting the Herrscher during Ascension and attacking those who threaten it. 432

Consciousness and Personality

Herrscher personalities are broadly divided into two observed types: a new Herrscher consciousness replacing the original personality, or corruption and amplification of the host's original personality. 47 141

• Replacement-type Herrschers retain the host's memories and knowledge but behave with an inhuman detachment. 47
• Corruption-type Herrschers can appear more human-like, retain stronger personality traits, and use their powers more adaptively; MOTH considers them especially dangerous. 141
• A Herrscher's intelligence and degree of anthropomorphism are linked to the knowledge accumulated during its human life. 211
• Human-like emotions do not necessarily indicate human values. The Sixth Herrscher could imitate emotion and exploit human weakness while remaining fundamentally empty. 162
• The Sixth Herrscher's Core conflict demonstrated that separate consciousnesses can compete for control of a single body and its Authority. 159 160

Lin later described Herrschers not as wholly independent beings, but as projections linked through a “Gate” to a larger concept. 571

Exceptional Cases

Multiple Cores

A Herrscher may exceed its normal Authority limitations by possessing multiple Herrscher Cores.

• The Herrscher of the Void encountered during the Ninth Honkai War possessed two Cores. 459
• The Second Herrscher of the Previous Civilization was recorded as the only forbidden historical existence known to possess multiple Authorities. 158
• The Herrscher of Domination sought other Cores so its networked individuals could share their Authorities. 471 677
• Lin's Pseudo-Herrscher Core developed traits associated with the Herrschers of Death and Void, making it more dangerous than a standard single Authority. 480

Herrscher of Domination

The Tenth Herrscher differs fundamentally from ordinary Herrschers.

• Its hosts may remain unaware that they are Herrschers, continuing to live and fight among humans while their consciousnesses are used as disguises. 470
• Individual bodies can revive indefinitely, while the collective communicates through a quantum-entanglement-like network. 674 677
• Its hosts were corrupted through software that gradually altered their cognition; destroying the software returned the affected humans to normal. 681
• No Herrscher Cores were found after the hosts were restored, leaving the entity's ultimate nature unresolved. 681

Herrschers Allied with Humanity

Herrscher status does not always determine a being's allegiance.

• The Sixth Herrscher, Seele, assisted Lin against the Eighth Herrscher within a consciousness space. 269
• Lin argued that Herrschers such as Kiana could protect humanity, directly opposing Jiu's belief that destruction is a Herrscher's only purpose. 680
• A Herrscher from an older civilization was said to have ultimately died to save humanity. 689
