Background / History

Jiraiya recommended Minato as Hiruzen Sarutobi's successor, and Hiruzen supported the choice. Becoming Hokage was Minato's personal dream and one shared by his wife, Kushina. 5

Before taking office, Minato was drawn into Root's schemes by Shiraishi, who warned him that Danzo and the Third Hokage might fight to the death. Believing Konoha could not endure a civil conflict, Minato agreed to intervene and protect the village. 5 He came to regard Shiraishi as a loyal ninja devoted to Konoha, only to be devastated when Shiraishi appeared to oppose him and later left behind a farewell letter. 72 79

Minato officially became the Fourth Hokage a year later. His early administration was constrained by opposition from the elders and Hiruzen's advice to avoid hasty reforms; proposals for Research and Medical Divisions at the Ninja Academy were rejected. 106

Personality

Minato is conscientious and strongly motivated by the need to protect Konoha. When warned of an impending clash between Danzo and Hiruzen, he immediately accepted the burden of preventing civil war. 5 He initially favored rest and recovery over escalating Konoha's conflict with Hidden Cloud, believing the village had already suffered enough losses. 27

He retains a firm moral line despite Danzo's influence.
