Tang Hao lived in Holy Soul Village as a blacksmith and raised Tang San and Tang Liu. Initially detached and severe, he tested Tang Liu with oppressive pressure, though his reaction to the boy's defiance and resemblance to Ah Yin revealed a tenderness he rarely showed openly 2.

Ah Yin's departure left Tang Hao bitter and pessimistic about Soul Masters. He initially rejected Old Jack's request to send his sons to the Soul Master Academy, dismissing Blue Silver Grass and the value of becoming powerful 3 4. After learning that both sons possessed exceptional martial souls, he relented, taught Tang San forging and the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, and warned both boys never to reveal or attach soul rings to their Clear Sky Hammers 5.

When Tang Liu disclosed his Innate Level 20 soul power in a note, Tang Hao secretly followed the brothers and Grandmaster into the Soul Hunting Forest. He observed Tang Liu's unusual third martial soul and intervened when the boy faced a Soul Ancestor-level threat, later bringing him safely home 17 18.

Tang Hao gradually became Tang Liu's mentor and guardian. He taught him meditation, set reaching level 30 within six months as the condition for traveling together, and remained beside him through his first deep cultivation session 19 20. He later accompanied Tang Liu through repeated searches in the Star Dou Great Forest, becoming increasingly accepting of his son's plans and independence 24 25 31.

After Tang Liu was captured by the Demon Eye Demon Tree, Tang Hao revealed the full force of his strength, severely injuring the tree and rescuing his son. He supported Tang Liu's decision to absorb its spirit ring rather than kill it outright 27. Information later revealed that Tang Hao had once been the designated heir of the Clear Sky Sect and had assisted the future Star Luo Emperor in ascending the throne. After Spirit Hall pursued the unidentified object connected to Ah Yin, Tang Hao fought Spirit Hall's former pope, rose from Soul Douluo to Titled Douluo during the conflict, and suffered serious injuries. He subsequently withdrew from the public eye to prevent retaliation against the Clear Sky Sect and his sons 123 233.

After the Spirit City confrontation, Tang Hao retrieved the unconscious Tang Liu and withdrew with Tang San and the Shrek group. He later continued guiding Tang San's Clear Sky Hammer cultivation, taking him to train the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer beneath a waterfall and accompanying him to obtain his fifth soul ring 208 251.

Tang Hao was beaten by his father, Tang Chen, while waiting outside Hell Road for Tang San. Tang Liu healed his injuries, then transported Tang Hao and Tang San to Moonlight Pavilion, where Tang Hao reunited with his sister Tang Yuehua after years apart 266. He subsequently entrusted both sons to Yuehua's care for a year of etiquette and refinement training 267.

Following the restoration of his strength, Tang Hao brought Tang San and Tang Liu to the hidden cave containing Ah Yin's Blue Silver Grass form. He openly recounted his history with Ah Yin, allowed his sons to reconnect with their mother, and witnessed Tang Liu and Tang San begin restoring her cultivation at the Icefire Yin Yang Well 270 271. Tang San and Tang Liu later presented Tang Hao's previously severed Soul Bones to the Clear Sky Sect as his final contribution, while concealing that their combined abilities had restored him completely 274.

Tang Hao rejoined the conflict against Spirit Hall during the battle of Jialing Pass. Alongside Tang Xiao, he restrained Spirit Hall's Title Douluo forces while Tang San and Tang Liu eliminated three powerful offerings 361.

In the God Realm era, Tang Hao and Ah Yin remained distant from Tang San, who rarely visited them because of his responsibilities as God King. When Tang San asked them to return to Douluo Continent for safety, Tang Hao agreed to discuss it with Ah Yin. His suppressed memories of Tang Liu later began resurfacing through dreams, despite Ah Yin having erased or reset those memories repeatedly to protect their younger son from discovery 598.

Tang Hao is initially indifferent, cynical, and emotionally withdrawn. He dismisses the Soul Master path because of his past losses and often communicates with his sons through blunt criticism or silence rather than direct affection 3 4.

Beneath that harsh exterior, he is intensely protective. He secretly watches over Tang San and Tang Liu, stays beside Tang Liu during cultivation, and reacts with overwhelming force whenever his younger son is endangered 18 20 27. His parenting is awkward and strict—he punishes Tang Liu for disrespect—but he becomes increasingly patient and receptive as he recognizes the boy's intelligence and determination 23 25.

Tang Hao remains easily exasperated by Tang Liu's mischief, particularly when his son teases him, withholds food, or turns serious family matters into jokes. However, he repeatedly indulges Tang Liu despite himself, such as carrying him through the air after the boy acted spoiled to avoid walking 22 23 24.
