Nature and Function

Conventional Hunting

A Soul Beast may be killed to produce a Soul Ring, which the Soul Master then draws into their body and absorbs.

• The Spirit Cat killed by Tang Liu formed a yellow Soul Ring. 9
• Dai Yunze killed a Silver-Eyed Crocodile Lizard after it had been subdued, creating a black Ten-Thousand-Year Soul Ring. 488

Self-Cultivation

Tang Liu’s Haolan Spell can cultivate its own blue-black Soul Rings without killing Soul Beasts.

• The Haolan Spell was identified as a Martial Soul that can independently cultivate Soul Rings. 82

Ring Borrowing

Ring Borrowing transfers a Soul Beast’s current Soul Power into a Soul Ring without necessarily killing it.

God-Bestowed Soul Rings

God-Bestowed Soul Rings have no predetermined age.

• Their final age depends on the absorber’s endurance during fusion. 332

Contract-Based Rings

Equal Contracts allow a contracted Soul Beast to transfer Soul Rings and Soul Bones to a Soul Master.

• Qingya’s contract allows her rings to remain at the maximum age Dai Yunze can withstand and grow with his cultivation. 553
• Jin Chen’s contract granted Dai Yunze two four-hundred-thousand-year rings, though their active power remains restricted by Dai Yunze’s current physical limit; excess power stays with the contracted Soul Beasts until he can absorb it. 555

Artificially Created Rings

The Firstborn can transform energy from creatures beyond the Douluo universe into Soul Rings and Soul Bones.

• He explains that Soul Rings are condensed energy rather than resources exclusive to native Soul Beasts. 346

Notable Soul Ring Effects

• Ethereal Defense — Tang Liu’s first Ethereal Blue Silver Emperor skill grants one chosen target immunity to tangible attacks for one minute; it does not prevent mental attacks or environmental effects such as heat and cold. 9
• Ethereal Stealth — Conceals up to five targets, breaks existing locks, and prevents ordinary observation; dealing or receiving damage can end the effect. 28
• Hao-Lan Mark — Places an undetectable, irremovable mark through skin contact, allowing Tang Liu to track the target and observe an area around them regardless of distance. 9

Ring Borrowing and the Blue Rune
