Reborn as Shisui Uchiha

Year 46 of Konoha, the first year of the Third Shinobi World War. In the Land of Fire.

"Shisui, hurry up! I just received a distress message from Jonin Mimura Hamaki. Iwagakure's Jonin Higashishinin is leading a thousand Iwagakure troops in an invasion, and they've already advanced to the area around Kannabi Bridge. We need to hurry over and reinforce them."

As the Konoha Chunin spoke, he glanced back at his companion, only to find Shisui Uchiha still standing where he was, with no intention of following.

"Sorry, Akira Shimura. I just received a message from my fellow Uchiha, too. They're also under attack by Iwagakure. But they're not near Kannabi Bridge, so I'm going to help them now."

The Shisui Uchiha of this time wasn't the naïve, kind young man from the original story, who would sacrifice everything for the village. A complicated soul inhabited his body.

One half was the soul of someone who had crossed over from another world, while the other was the remnant of Shisui's original soul.

For the past few years, he had made sure not to show anything unusual, behaving properly and following the course of Shisui Uchiha's life so no one would suspect a thing.

But Shisui Uchiha knew that if things went on like this, Shimura Danzō would take his right eye. He would then dig out his own left eye and give it to Itachi Uchiha before jumping into the Naka River to end his life, all to help Itachi Uchiha awaken his Mangekyō Sharingan.

Shisui Uchiha couldn't accept that fate, but he had never found a suitable opportunity to change it.

The Battle of Kannabi Bridge was not only a turning point in the Third Shinobi World War, but also a turning point in the Uchiha Clan's fate for decades to come. Shisui Uchiha planned to seize this crucial moment and do something to alter his own destiny.

"But Lord Mimura Hamaki is the supreme commander of the frontline defense forces. By deserting your post and disobeying orders, you're making yourself unworthy of being a shinobi."

Shisui didn't argue with Akira Shimura's criticism. In this life, he knew full well that this so-called companion was nothing more than someone the Shimura Clan had sent to keep an eye on him.

And their clan leader, Shimura Danzō, was the man who would later ruin his life.

"Someone who can't protect his comrades is the one who doesn't deserve to be called a shinobi."

"Besides, since when did the affairs of the Uchiha Clan become any of your business, Akira Shimura?"

After living a second life, Shisui Uchiha had spent seven years observing Konoha through the eyes of an adult. How could he let himself be deceived by those hypocritical lies again?

In that moment, Shisui's former companions seemed like complete strangers.

"You, Shisui Uchiha! Are you trying to rebel?!" Akira Shimura shouted, stung by the retort.

"Shisui Uchiha, if you insist on going down this path, I'll have no choice but to tell my uncle and make sure you're punished."

The one backing him up was Shisui Uchiha's other teammate, Kamii Sarutobi. He and Akira Shimura were Shisui's teammates in public, but secretly they monitored his every move.

The village claimed this arrangement was meant to honor Kagami Uchiha's contributions to Konoha, recreating the friendship Kagami Uchiha had once shared with Hiruzen Sarutobi and Shimura Danzō.

The thought that they would even use his dead grandfather to put on a show made Shisui even angrier. Right now, all he wanted was to get away from these two repulsive men.

Just as Shisui was about to leave, a kunai suddenly shot in from the left, aimed straight at a vital spot.

But for an Uchiha with the Sharingan, a kunai's trajectory was easy to read. And Shisui Uchiha was famous in Konoha for his Body Flicker Technique, so he dodged the attack with ease.

"Shisui Uchiha, don't you dare leave! Otherwise, don't blame us for what happens next."

It was Akira Shimura who had launched the sneak attack, while Kamii Sarutobi took up a fighting stance.

"Is this how Shimura Danzō taught you to treat your own comrades? You're not fit to be a shinobi."

Old and new grievances surged up inside him. Shisui Uchiha no longer wanted to hold back his anger. He was going to teach these two bastards a lesson.

"Fire Release: Great Fireball Technique."

The Great Fireball Technique required five hand seals, and Shisui Uchiha completed them in just one second. Then he breathed out flames that formed a person-tall fireball in front of him, sending it flying toward Akira Shimura and Kamii Sarutobi.

"You dare fight back? Water Release: Iron Bullet!" Akira Shimura used a C-rank Water Release Ninjutsu, trying to counter Shisui's Great Fireball Technique.

Kamii Sarutobi chose to attack as a means of defense, immediately using a C-rank Earth Release technique in an attempt to catch Shisui by surprise.

"Earth Release: Hiding Like a Mole Technique."

Facing their counterattack, Shisui could only laugh.

"Don't you realize how ridiculous your actions look in front of these eyes?"

When Shisui opened his eyes again, his scarlet gaze fixed on Akira Shimura and Kamii Sarutobi's every move. Three black tomoe were slowly spinning in each eye as his powerful ocular prowess spread without restraint.

"Caught you, you traitor!"

Using the underground movement of the Earth Dragon Submersion Technique, Kamii Sarutobi quickly reached Shisui Uchiha's feet and grabbed his ankle.

"Earth Release: Headhunter Technique."

Just as Kamii Sarutobi thought he had successfully trapped Shisui Uchiha, he realized that all he was holding was a piece of wood.

"Substitution Technique? When did you—?" Kamii Sarutobi exclaimed in shock.

"You're surprised by that? What makes you think you have what it takes to beat me?"

Shisui Uchiha appeared off to the side. As he watched the two fools in their sorry state, he continued making hand seals.

"Now I'll show you a technique I've just developed: Phantom Body Flicker Technique."

The instant he finished his hand seals, three identical phantoms appeared beside Shisui Uchiha. Then all four Shisuis drew kunai and charged at Akira Shimura and Kamii Sarutobi from different directions.

"Don't panic! There's only one real one!" Akira Shimura called to Kamii Sarutobi on the other side, having just caught his breath. He was trying to reassure himself, too.

"Is that so? Then open your eyes wide and watch carefully." All four Shisuis spoke at once.

The Phantom Body Flicker Technique was the source of the title "Body Flicker Shisui," and not merely because it could create multiple phantoms to confuse an enemy.

The phantoms attacked alongside the original, dealing damage with the same force. And when Shisui's phantoms were struck, they didn't disappear, so the enemy couldn't distinguish the original from them by conventional means.

Even if someone saw through which Shisui was the original, he could switch the original's position among the phantoms, making it impossible for his opponent to keep track of him.

That was what made the Phantom Body Flicker Technique so powerful.
