Background / History

Konoha was founded in the Warring States Period after the Senju and Uchiha clans ended their long conflict and formed an alliance. Hashirama Senju named the village leader the Hokage, while Uchiha Madara named the settlement Konoha. It was the first hidden village in shinobi history, and the other great nations later established comparable shinobi organizations 231 233 254.

The village was created as a sanctuary where shinobi could live in peace rather than serve as clan mercenaries. Its founding coalition joined the resources of the Senju and Uchiha, turning Konoha into a major military and political power within the Land of Fire 231 234.

Nagato's Invasion

Nagato's Six Paths of Pain infiltrate Konoha through an aerial surprise attack after an insider leaks details of its defenses. The Barrier Team detects the intrusion but initially underestimates the threat, while the Anbu are overwhelmed by the Preta Path and Asura Path 70 71.

Although Minato's forces ultimately repel the attack, Konoha suffers extensive destruction, heavy civilian casualties, the loss of half its Anbu personnel, and the loss of the Nine-Tails. These failures severely damage Minato's reputation and allow factions supporting Hiruzen Sarutobi's return to gain influence 106.

The Uchiha clan responds by distributing food, funds, medical access, and reconstruction support to affected civilians. Their aid improves public opinion of the clan and results in the construction of Uchiha Bridges and Uchiha Charity Houses 106 107.

Internal Political Crisis

Kumogakure later demands that Konoha surrender Shisui Uchiha for killing its delegation leader and masses troops at the border. At the village assembly, Hiruzen Sarutobi and several clan representatives support compromise, while Minato and the Uchiha clan oppose handing Shisui over 120.

The Uchiha, Hyuga, and Aburame clans become Minato's earliest major allies. Their elite shinobi are mobilized under the Fourth Hokage's command, encouraging other clans to contribute troops as well 125.

Fourth Great Ninja War

When Kumogakure, Iwagakure, and Sunagakure invade the Land of Fire, Konoha dispatches 1,200 shinobi across several fronts. Shisui leads the northeastern defense against Kumogakure, Fugaku commands the northwestern front against Iwagakure, and Jiraiya leads another unit 127.

Postwar Ascendancy

After the war, Konoha's military strength rises above the other four great villages. Obito Uchiha's Defection
