A Conversation on the Mountaintop

On the sixth underground level of the Royal Palace Ruins, Gleia Blue Dragon and Wendy, who had witnessed the entire sixth level go from pitch-black to brightly lit, kept inspecting the dozens of enormous machines.

"I'm afraid this is the most valuable place in all of Night-Kirin City," Gleia said, stroking the massive casting machine. "These were probably all left behind from the Goblin era. Wendy, did you study world history before? I remember Blue Dragon Academy's curriculum had a dedicated Goblin-language course."

"No." After the Magic Furnace returned to normal, Wendy's attitude toward Gleia had turned very cold as well. "I was sold to the Barbarians before I had time to learn it!"

"Really?" the Dragon Girl stopped and looked at the girl not far away. "But I specifically asked the teacher who brought you back then. You studied with the teachers from the Imperial Capital's Tower of Purity for half a year before anything happened."

"Those of us from little backwaters can't learn obscure foreign languages, all right?" Wendy was a little impatient. "No matter what era the Magic Patterns up there are from, the most important thing is to understand them, so we can modify them later."

After snapping a couple of sentences, Wendy saw that the Dragon Girl no longer answered and muttered under her breath, "Just because you know a lot doesn't mean you have to show off."

Gleia lingered among the many machines, trying to find some idea of how to operate these ancient relics, while Wendy followed the Magic Array on the floor and found a new room. It was a Magic Lift connecting the underground to the surface. The Dragon Girl and Wendy entered together, saving themselves the suffering of climbing stairs.

The Magic Lift was not
