Background / History

Yu Xiaogang was born a direct descendant of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan and the son of Thunder Douluo Yu Yuanzhen. Despite his abnormal martial soul, his father protected and indulged him; the clan expended rare resources to strengthen his body enough for him to acquire a first spirit ring approaching two hundred years. 36 37

After leaving his clan, Yu Xiaogang became involved with Bibi Dong. During their relationship, he accessed Martial Soul Hall archives through her status and used their contents in formulating his “Ten Core Competencies of Martial Soul.” Shui Xinhan attributes his lifelong level-29 bottleneck to his own erroneous conclusions and self-destructive actions. 36 37

He later formed the Golden Iron Triangle with Flender and Liu Erlong. Liu Erlong’s relationship with him halted much of her cultivation for years; their intended marriage ended when they learned they were cousins. 37

When Su Yun Tao, then a twelve-year-old level-11 soul master, asked to become his disciple, Yu Xiaogang refused and stated that he would never take disciples. 7

Yu Xiaogang is intensely concerned with recognition, reputation, and proving his theories. His reactions to Shrek Academy’s failures repeatedly center on the loss of his chance to gain fame rather than the students’ welfare. 36 128

He often projects confidence beyond his actual strength, including threatening Salas with Tang Hao’s token and asserting that the Golden Sacred Dragon could deal with Yang Wudi. 119 142 However, he is also capable of risking himself for Tang San, placing his injured body between his disciple and Chrysanthemum Douluo. 157

Shrek Academy and the Breaking Clan

Yu Xiaogang supported Shrek Academy’s confrontation with Yang Wudi, confidently claiming that the Golden Sacred Dragon could handle a Spirit Douluo. Yang Wudi defeated and impaled him with the Soul Breaking Spear before Su Yun Tao ordered his release to avoid provoking Bibi Dong. 119 120

Continental Advanced Spirit Master Elite Tournament

Following Shrek Academy’s defeat by the Heaven Dou Royal Academy Second Team, he dismissed the loss and focused on restoring Tang San’s confidence. He later directed Tang San toward specializing in the Clear Sky Hammer in pursuit of tournament success and public renown. 127 128 146

Conflict with Martial Soul Hall

Yu Xiaogang used Tang Hao’s token to pressure Salas, but Martial Soul Hall later moved to arrest him for impersonating an elder. He and Flender and Liu Erlong deployed the Golden Sacred Dragon to resist. 142 143

At Martial Soul City, he stood against Chrysanthemum Douluo to protect Tang San. Although immobilized by Titled Douluo pressure, his intervention deepened Tang San’s faith in him. 157

Death and Political Aftermath

Su Yun Tao and Ning Fengzhi chose to have Yu Xiaogang killed in order to exploit Bibi Dong’s obsession and intensify conflict within Martial Soul Hall. Chen Xin killed him secretly with his left-handed sword style; the altered sword marks led Bibi Dong to suspect Qian Daoliu instead. 205 206
