The surgery was a success
The sobbing subsided a little.
Kerrigan hugged her blanket tightly.
The blanket was pulled away; everything was gone.
In my dream, some scenes from the past seemed to reappear as if from yesterday—the small town, the garden with the greenhouse and the lush green lawn in front of the door, the sky was a warm color, a pale yellow like flower petals.
Suddenly, the sky and everything else turned a deep, blood-red color, as if someone had splashed paint of the same color onto it.
In front of this house with its red dome, five-year-old Kerrigan, still oblivious to everything, inadvertently used her Psionics to detonate the head of her mother, who was scolding her, during a moment of emotional turmoil. Just like Kerrigan father, who was about to drive the family to town, Kerrigan, who witnessed everything, fell into a prolonged state of shock.
Unfortunately, she didn't go insane like her lucky father Patrick Kerrigan.
Kerrigan wanted to escape, but the memories that kept resurfacing kept surfacing.
During her graduation training at the Ghost Academy, fifteen-year-old Kerrigan infiltrates a politician's home alone.
The politician died for speaking the truth at a government-organized press conference, along with his wife and young daughters.
Then, a sex scandal involving numerous deaths was suddenly exposed. After what appeared to be a very arduous investigation, the police detectives and the sheriff could only regretfully announce that the poor man whose neck had been cut off by a knife had died by suicide.
A year later, some people spoke out for the politician, expressing their outrage at the baseless slander. The emotional public then spent several days remembering this great man, typing freely on websites.
This isn't the only family.
Since becoming Ghost operative, Kerrigan has killed more than a thousand people, most of whom were innocent family members of the assassins.
Every time someone is killed, their memories are permanently stored in Kerrigan's memory-storing neurons. The people of the Ghost Academy and her mentors deceived Kerrigan; technically, humans can currently only overwrite original memories with false ones, not completely replace them.
In a sense, it was the Psionics suppressors that saved these Ghost operative from being driven mad by such memories. However, it was actually the people who created these Psionics suppressors who ordered them to kill.
The thought of the innocent faces and their thoughts before their deaths filled Kerrigan with profound anguish. As a powerful Psionics, Kerrigan more sensitive to emotions than others, and the sorrow and pain of others were amplified within her.
In fact, Psionics are excellent listeners; they are always empathetic and therefore better understand the needs of others. Their Psionics sensitivity makes them love their fellow human beings more and care more about others.
Yet their fellow countrymen generally reject and fear Psionics.
Ghost operative Kerrigan is a complex contradiction; due to her mother's death and her kind nature, she harbors an unusual aversion to killing others.
But the Confederacy took her under its control and ordered her to kill.
My sins are unforgivable.
Suddenly, Kerrigan awoke from her nightmare. She heard voices beside her, but didn't open her eyes to see where she was. At the same time, there were humming sounds from operating instruments and the clinking of glass containers around her.
Kerrigan's body was still throbbing, and she endured the tearing pain, forcing herself not to make a sound.
At this moment, Kerrigan also sensed some changes in her body. She almost immediately realized that the Psionics suppressor implanted in the back of her left brain had been removed with exquisite skill.
However, Kerrigan's mentor at the Ghost Academy said that it was impossible for anyone in the world to remove the Psionics suppressor, and any forced removal would have extremely terrible consequences.
That's amazing!
Sixteen-year-old Kerrigan decided to curse the Confederacy that had caused her endless pain in her mind to prove that the Psionics suppressor had really been removed. However, Kerrigan was not good at cursing and had a limited vocabulary, so she could only curse them as pigs or stupid cookies.
"It's very similar to the Resocialized Soldier," an unfamiliar voice said. "This Psionics suppressor, or neural controller, can perform the same functions as the resocialization process."
"After this device is implanted, even those with powerful Psionics talents and telekinesis, who are considered uncontrollable Psionics, can become obedient warriors."
"In other words, I can make them do whatever I want?" A gentle, magnetic voice rang out amidst the sound of fingernails scraping against a metallic object—but it was undoubtedly the voice of the devil.
The words a teacher at the church school had once spoken to Kerrigan echoed in his mind, "God said that they are devils walking among the earth, the fallen third of the angels. They are murderers among us."
To drive away the demon, you must buy --
Just like many peripheral planets in the Terran Confederacy that are far from the core star system and the main world, in Kerrigan's homeland, due to the planet's harsh living conditions, people always place too much hope in religion.
Religions that were completely banned in the Earth era began to flourish, and the unclear "sacred words" were arbitrarily altered and interpreted. As a result, various religious sects and religions that worshipped all sorts of strange creatures or evil gods emerged.
But Kerrigan is an atheist.
"Can we mass-produce them?" the devil asked.
"You mean Psionics suppressor?" the previous voice said. "Not yet. We're not sure if it's effective against ordinary people."
"It's hard to say whether researchers in a certain laboratory—the predecessor of the Terran Confederacy Ghost Academy —eagerly used this technology after its emergence, or whether the resocialization technology itself originated from it."
"Alright, another question, Doctor," the devil said, "Will Sarah Kerrigan return to normal after the Psionics suppressor is removed?"
Kerrigan tried to spread her Psionics to sense the brainwaves people emit when they think, in order to figure out what was going on.
But this immediately led to disastrous consequences. Without the control of the Psionics suppressor, Kerrigan suddenly unleashed Psionics far exceeding her own expectations.
With the sounds of light bulbs, glassware, and eyeglasses shattering, the operating room suddenly dimmed.
Everyone was very embarrassed.
Kerrigan covered her face like a little girl who had done something wrong, and only opened her eyes after a brief silence. But when she brushed aside her fiery red hair covering her eyes and looked at Augustus, Kerrigan almost screamed in fright.
"You're awake?" Augustus shining a light, similar to a flashlight, at his face from below his chin.
Those cold, gray eyes were fixed on Kerrigan: "The surgery was a success."
"You're free." He revealed his "sharp" teeth.
Don't forget who saved you.
