"Grandpa Third, why exactly did you come to my house? I already had plans to meet up with Sasuke." Naruto looked at the Third Hokage and asked. The Third wore a kindly expression as he replied, "Naruto, you are already five years old. It is time to attend the Ninja Academy. Only by graduating from the academy can you become a ninja and better protect those you cherish."
Naruto replied happily, "Does that mean I'll become even stronger?" The Third smiled and answered, "Yes, that's right. Come now, let me take you to the academy to register. You can start school tomorrow, and you'll be able to make many more friends." Naruto nodded enthusiastically and said, "Okay, then I'll go call Sasuke so we can go together."
The Third replied, "There's no need for that, Naruto. Sasuke will be going with his parents; you will run into him at the Ninja Academy." Upon hearing this, Naruto nodded and muttered, "Fine, let's go then. That guy didn't even tell me beforehand—how annoying."
When Naruto and the Third arrived at the school, many people had already gathered. After Naruto and the Third finished registering and stepped outside, they saw Hinata. She was holding a basket, and following behind her was a man in his thirties, who was likely her father, Hyuga Hiashi.
Naruto excitedly ran over, took Hinata's hand, and said, "Hinata, you're here to register too? That means we'll be classmates! I'm so happy we get to go to school together." Being suddenly held by the hand, Hinata felt very shy, yet she was also filled with a small sense of excitement.
Hinata blushed and replied, "I am also very happy to be going to school with Naruto-kun." At this moment, Hinata's father looked at Naruto and said, "You must be Naruto Uzumaki. Thank you for helping my daughter last time." Seeing the Third, Hiashi added politely, "Lord Hokage, you are here as well." The Third smiled and replied, "Yes, I'm just accompanying Naruto to register."
As the two were chatting, Sasuke arrived, accompanied by his father. Seeing Sasuke, Naruto called out happily, "Sasuke, Uncle Fugaku, why are you only just getting here? Grandpa Third and I have already finished registering; you guys are way too slow."
Sasuke retorted angrily, "Naruto, you jerk! You made me wait for ages, and you didn't even tell me you were going ahead. You have some nerve talking to me like that."
Naruto then remembered that he had essentially stood Sasuke up, so he replied sheepishly, "I heard from Grandpa Third that you guys would be coming too, so I didn't bother looking for you. Anyway, we're meeting now, aren't we? Come on, don't be so petty."
Hearing Naruto's irresponsible words, Sasuke really wanted to finish him off just to save himself the headache. At this point, Fugaku approached the group and spoke politely to the Third and Hiashi: "Lord Hokage, Clan Leader Hiashi, you are here as well." The Third and Hiashi replied with equal courtesy, "Indeed, you have arrived as well, Clan Leader Fugaku."
Naruto then happily took Hinata's hand and introduced her to Sasuke: "Sasuke, this is my other friend besides you. Her name is Hinata Hyuga. Hinata, this is Sasuke."
Sasuke glanced at Hinata and said, "I'm going to register now. Wait for me so we can go train together." "Sure, I'll wait for you," Naruto replied.
Fugaku then said to the Third and Hiashi, "We shall head inside now." "Very well," the Third and Hiashi replied.
Seeing Sasuke and Fugaku enter the registration office, Naruto turned to Hinata and asked, "Hinata, do you want to come train with us?" Hinata, not expecting an invitation, looked back at Hiashi, feeling a bit at a loss.
Hinata wanted to go, but she was afraid Hiashi wouldn't allow it. Seeing her look toward him, Hiashi understood what she was thinking. He didn't look at her, but said indifferently, "Don't come home too late."
Hearing her father's consent, Hinata replied happily, "Yes, thank you, Father."
Once Sasuke and Fugaku came back out, Naruto grabbed the hands of both Sasuke and Hinata and said to the adults, "Grandpa Third, Uncle Hiashi, Uncle Fugaku, we'll be heading off now."
The Third said kindly, "Go on, but don't be home too late." Watching the three of them run off until they were out of sight, the Third laughed, "He really is just like his father. Minato was the same way back then."
Hearing the Third's words, Fugaku also smiled and said, "Indeed. At such a young age, his strength is already approaching the level of a Chunin. It's a pity Sasuke is still a bit behind."
The Third looked at Fugaku and laughed, "Sasuke isn't doing poorly at all. You were far worse than him when you were his age; your standards are just too high. By the way, Hiashi, what is your daughter's level?"
Hiashi, having listened to their conversation, knew that these two had been spying on Sasuke and Naruto's training quite often, and he was also surprised by the talent of those two children. Hearing the Third's question, Hiashi replied with disappointment, "Sigh, that child is too soft and too kind. She really cannot compare to those two."
The Third and Fugaku were stunned for a moment, then the Third laughed, "You are being too strict. As long as she has a kind heart, she is a good child. They are still young, so take it slow. Don't be in such a rush." Hearing the Third's comfort, Hiashi smiled, "Perhaps I really am being too strict." For a moment, all three fell silent.
Naruto and Sasuke brought Hinata to the forest where they usually trained. Without a word, Sasuke launched a punch at Naruto, who barely managed to react in time.
After dodging Sasuke's punch, Naruto shouted, "Sasuke, you're so despicable! Playing dirty with a sneak attack." Seeing Naruto dodge and jump aside, Sasuke didn't pursue him but instead quickly formed hand seals. Naruto followed suit. "Fire Style: Fireball Jutsu!" "Wind Style: Great Breakthrough!" The collision of the two ninjutsu instantly kicked up a massive cloud of dust.
Naruto charged into the dust, using the cover to launch a surprise attack on Sasuke. Sasuke was startled when Naruto suddenly burst through the smoke, but just as Naruto's fist was about to reach his face, Sasuke's eyes suddenly shifted into a one-tomoe Sharingan. With the aid of his eyes, Sasuke caught Naruto's arm, pivoted, and threw him into the air before quickly forming seals. Naruto also formed seals while in mid-air.
Sasuke and Naruto simultaneously unleashed their techniques: "Fire Style: Phoenix Sage Fire Jutsu!" and "Wind Style: Wind Cutter Jutsu!" The shockwave from the collision blew both Naruto and Sasuke several meters back until they slammed into tree trunks and came to a stop.
Naruto cursed, "Sasuke, you jerk! Are you trying to kill me?" Sasuke retorted, "You're no better, you idiot."
Hinata had been bewildered from the start. As soon as they arrived in the forest, Sasuke had ambushed Naruto, and then the two had started fighting. Once she regained her composure, she was shocked by the strength they had displayed. Thinking of her own abilities, she felt quite inferior.
However, she also encouraged herself internally, "They are the same age as me, and they are already this strong and still working hard. I can't lose either."
Seeing Naruto and Sasuke both hit the trees, Hinata rushed over and asked, "Naruto-kun, Sasuke-kun, are you both alright?"
Naruto stood up and said, "I'm fine, I'm fine. It's impossible for someone with Sasuke's level of strength to hurt me. Hahaha, I'm very strong, you know."
Sasuke also stood up and said, "Shut up, you big idiot. Even hurting me is just a pipe dream for you." "What did you say?" Naruto asked angrily. "What are you going to do about it?" Sasuke didn't back down, and it looked like they might start fighting again at any moment.
Hinata immediately stepped in to mediate, "Naruto-kun, Sasuke-kun, come have something to eat." With that, she opened her basket and took out a variety of foods.
Seeing the food, Naruto remembered he hadn't eaten anything that morning. He happily ran over to eat, saying, "Mmm, delicious! Hinata, you'll definitely make a great wife in the future." Hinata's face turned bright red instantly.
Sasuke came over as well and said to Hinata, "Thank you for the hospitality." Seeing Naruto stuffing his face, he remarked, "What a rude guy," before starting to eat as well.
"And you, the young master of the Uchiha, are polite? You're just as sweaty as I am. If you've got guts, go take a bath before you eat." Even while eating, Sasuke and Naruto didn't miss a single opportunity to take a jab at each other.
"By the way, Sasuke, when did you quietly awaken your Sharingan?" After finishing the meal, Naruto suddenly remembered that Sasuke had been using his Sharingan the entire time they were fighting. He asked in surprise.
One had to realize that Sasuke was only five years old. In his memories, Sasuke didn't awaken it until the Land of Waves mission. The current Sasuke was much stronger than the one in his memories. "A few days ago, after training with you," Sasuke replied indifferently.
Naruto immediately understood why. A few days ago, he had won their sparring match, and this guy must have awakened it out of sheer frustration. What a monster.
Realizing why Sasuke had awakened it early, Naruto felt happy for him. "That's great, Sasuke! You really are a genius. Awakening it at five years old—I remember Itachi-nii was seven or eight when he awakened his. You're even more impressive than him!" Sasuke was actually quite happy that Naruto was pleased for him.
He replied, "Thank you too, Naruto. If you hadn't been training with me, I wouldn't have awakened it so quickly." Naruto said sheepishly, "It's nothing. It's all your own talent; what does it have to do with me? Besides, I feel myself getting stronger every time I fight you. So let's not thank each other—let's just keep improving together."
"Yeah, let's keep improving," Sasuke replied, feeling a bit touched. "You're not Hinata; your gratitude is giving me goosebumps. It's so cold, I must be wearing too little," Naruto muttered under his breath.
But Sasuke heard him. Sasuke immediately felt like a fool for thanking this damn idiot; he should just finish him off instead. Sasuke felt like he had made a terrible mistake in his choice of friends, and his heart turned cold.
Hinata, having heard Naruto's words, felt her face flush red. Seeing Sasuke glaring at him with a dark expression, and noticing Hinata's blushing face, Naruto realized he had accidentally spoken his inner thoughts aloud again.
However, Naruto's skin had already become thicker than a city wall. He decided to use the "distraction technique." Naruto coughed lightly and said, "Let's practice tree-walking and water-walking next."
Sure enough, Sasuke and Hinata's attention was diverted. Sasuke asked curiously, "Tree-walking, water-walking? What are those?" Hinata looked equally confused.
"It's a skill where you focus chakra under your feet to walk on trees and water. It also helps us better control our chakra output so we don't waste it."
As he spoke, he walked up a tree, though he only managed about ten steps before falling off. "That's tree-walking. Your chakra output must be stable. Once we can walk freely on trees, we'll practice water-walking. By then, our control over chakra will be barely passable."
Hearing Naruto's explanation, Sasuke and Hinata were both eager to try.
