Background / History

Kimimaro escaped Kirigakure with Lin Cheng following the Kaguya Clan's destruction. Initially uncertain whether Lin Cheng truly needed him, he accepted Lin Cheng's request to become the person entrusted with guarding his back. The two began traveling together as brothers, with Kimimaro choosing to remain at Lin Cheng's side and protect him 7.

While fleeing Kirigakure hunter-nin, Kimimaro fought beside Lin Cheng against repeated pursuers. Raised as a weapon and knowing little beyond combat, he gradually experienced ordinary childhood moments through their travels, including fishing, eating grilled fish, and visiting towns 7 8 9. He accompanied Lin Cheng through the Land of Snow conflict, helped defeat the Snow Ninja, and carried Lin Cheng out of Kazahana Dōtō's collapsing castle 11 14.

Lin Cheng later began seeking Tsunade and other doctors to treat Kimimaro's Shikotsumyaku disease. Although Tsunade refused to help, Lin Cheng learned enough medicine from Shennong to suppress the illness temporarily. Lin Cheng continued limiting Kimimaro's use of Shikotsumyaku because he believed excessive use would worsen the condition 16 27 29 30 33.

After nearly two years on the run, Kimimaro had grown into a lean, athletic eight-year-old whose combat strength exceeded his original counterpart. His formerly stoic demeanor also changed; he became playful and mischievous around Lin Cheng while remaining eager to fight 25. He later entered Konoha with Lin Cheng, joined the Anbu, and served on missions alongside Kakashi and Tenzō 42 47 48.

Years of traveling with Lin Cheng soften Kimimaro's original killing-machine upbringing. He develops a cheerful, teasing side, complains playfully when Lin Cheng flicks his forehead, and openly enjoys fighting 25 37. Despite this growth, he remains deeply concerned that Lin Cheng may no longer need him after copying Shikotsumyaku, a fear Lin Cheng directly reassures him about 23.
