King from Above, Eyes Wide with Fury
Tang Wulin had been meditating in a tree when he suddenly sensed movement nearby. He opened his eyes and saw Lin Chen and Gu Yuena, as well as Xie Xie fleeing for his life.
But something seemed off.
Lin Chen spotted Tang Wulin landing from the corner of his eye and immediately called out, "Wulin, go help Xie Xie first. Na'er and I will handle this Crystal Bear."
Tang Wulin nodded. "Got it!" He pushed off the ground and raced toward Xie Xie.
Under Xie Xie's astonished gaze, golden dragon scales spread across Tang Wulin's right hand. He curled his fingers into a claw while raising the Thousandfold Refinement Heavy Silver Hammer high in his left hand.
Almost the instant the Golden Dragon Claw appeared, the Unicorn Dragon's body stiffened. Its enormous frame came to a dead stop for a moment.
Tang Wulin brought the Heavy Silver Hammer in his left hand crashing down onto the Unicorn Dragon's forehead. A dull impact boomed out, and then the Golden Dragon Claw raked across its head, its tips plunging deep into the creature's skull.
The Unicorn Dragon's massive body lost its support in an instant. It crashed to the ground with a thud without even letting out a scream.
A golden glow emanated from its body. The Golden Little Snake on Tang Wulin's shoulder slurped it up like a mouthful of noodles.
Tang Wulin glanced at Xie Xie's stunned expression, his mouth twitching. I'll explain once we're out. First, we need to help Brother Lin Chen and the others.
Only after a jolt did Xie Xie snap out of his shock. He watched the Unicorn Dragon slowly fade away, swallowed, and quickly replied, "All right. Let's hurry over and help!"
Neither of them wasted any time. They sprinted toward the battlefield on the other side, one behind the other.
At that moment, Lin Chen and Gu Yuena were locked in a fierce struggle with the thousand-year-old Crystal Bear. The lightning Lin Chen unleashed only managed to numb it for a moment, while the ice spikes Gu Yuena sent flying left no more than a few white marks on its surface.
Lin Chen was getting desperate. "Damn it, did they buff this Crystal Bear? It wasn't this ridiculous in the original story, was it?"
"Brother Lin Chen, Gu Yuena, we're here to help!" Tang Wulin called from afar. His right arm glowed with the Golden Dragon Claw once more, Soul Power surging around him as he readied himself.
Xie Xie followed close behind.
Hearing them approach, Lin Chen immediately called out a plan. "Xie Xie, Na'er, you two keep it distracted and pinned down! Wulin, you and I will attack head-on. Look for its weak spots!"
At his words, Gu Yuena's cool gaze fixed on the Crystal Bear ahead. Several fireballs circled her, while Xie Xie used his speed and agility to keep harrying the beast.
The berserk Crystal Bear roared as the attacks kept coming. It swung its heavy paws wildly, trying to batter away the air around them and suffocate them.
Green lightning crackled around Lin Chen. It wrapped around his limbs, giving him a sudden burst of speed. He nimbly dodged the bear's sweeping claws, all the while keeping his eyes on the Crystal Bear's less protected areas.
One of them pressed the attack with lightning, striking and numbing the beast, while the other searched for its vital points with the Golden Dragon Claw.
Lin Chen's gaze suddenly sharpened. He fixed his eyes on an uneven crystalline seam where the Crystal Bear's neck joined its head. The time was right. He shouted, "Wulin! Now!"
The moment the words left his mouth, green light surged from Lin Chen's left arm. Scales sprang up along it, and the sharp, deadly Azure Dragon Claw took shape. Wild green lightning coiled around its blades and crackled as he drove a devastating blow toward the bear.
Tang Wulin reacted just as quickly beside him. His dragon claw tore through the air, following right behind Lin Chen as it smashed toward the Crystal Bear's head.
Lin Chen called out, "Now this is a blood-pumping combination skill!"
The green dragon claw came wrapped in lightning, while the golden dragon claw carried a shattering effect. Both slammed into the Crystal Bear's head at once.
A thunderous explosion burst forth. The hard crystalline shell shattered across the ground. The Crystal Bear let out a shrill, furious roar as its massive body convulsed, its head lurching down uncontrollably.
Lin Chen immediately called out, "Na'er, Xie Xie, Tang Wulin, fall back. I'll finish this bastard off with a fatal strike." (Back up—I'm about to show off!)
Gu Yuena and the others retreated without hesitation. Only the battered Crystal Bear remained, still struggling wildly, its blood-red eyes locked on Lin Chen.
It summoned the last of its strength and raised its heavy paw, trying to make one final counterattack and cripple its enemy.
Green lightning surged violently around Lin Chen. The next moment, he focused his mind and called out, "Little Vine, time to get to work."
Lin Chen's eyes narrowed. He released all his Soul Power without holding back. His third Soul Skill, Myriad Thunder Cangming!
Lightning poured down from the sky like a starving pack of wolves, flooding into the Crystal Bear's ruined head. It let out a gut-wrenching scream as its massive body convulsed and trembled.
Its body slammed into the charred earth, finally losing the strength to struggle.
Long Hengxu watched the Thunder Hell Vine slowly fade beside Lin Chen, his gaze fixed on it in disbelief. "This... isn't that the Thunder Hell Vine? How could a Soul Spirit as unyielding as this become Lin Chen's Soul Spirit?"
After absorbing the spiritual energy, they all exited the Spirit Ascension Platform together. Zhang Yangzi and Wang Jinxi, who had been eliminated early, were also watching from outside.
Wu Changkong looked at Lin Chen and spoke evenly. "Lin Chen, come with me for a moment. Alone."
Wu Changkong sealed off the surrounding space with Soul Power, then fixed his gaze on Lin Chen and asked bluntly, "Lin Chen, tell me—did you originally come from Shrek Academy?"

Wu Changkong's pupils contracted at his words, and his gaze dimmed. "All right. I promise. But there's something I'd like to ask you."
Lin Chen shook his head. "You want to ask how your master is doing, right?"
"Uncle Zhuo Shi still talks about you all the time. He's never blamed you at all..."
After a long, deathly silence, Wu Changkong finally spoke, his usually cool, steady voice heavy with hoarseness. "Master... has he... been well all these years?"
Lin Chen saw the sorrow and concern Wu Changkong could not hide in his eyes, and spoke softly. "Uncle Zhuo Shi has been well. He never blamed you for your angry decision to leave Shrek back then. In fact, he often brings you up with the elders at the pavilion. He's always worried about you and hopes you'll be willing to visit someday."
After coming alone to teach at Eastsea Academy, Wu Changkong had deliberately avoided anything connected to Shrek. He hadn't dared ask about his old sect, carrying a heavy burden of guilt and unease deep in his heart.
Now, learning so suddenly that his master had never blamed him, the knot he had carried for years loosened, and bitterness flooded his chest.
Wu Changkong lowered his eyes to the ground. Complicated emotions churned in his gaze, and his hoarse voice was almost a whisper. "So... I was the one who'd been overthinking it all along."
