Early the next morning, Wu Changkong led the group to a small, deep-blue building. There was no one at the entrance, so Wu Changkong stepped forward and pressed his hand against the glass.
A cheeky voice rang out: "Long time no see, little Changkong of the East Sea."
The moment the words fell, both Tang Wulin and Xie Xie froze. A second later, they couldn't hold it in and burst into laughter, their shoulders shaking as they struggled to keep from doubling over.
Linchen, meanwhile, recited internally: Don't break, don't break, don't break. Fortunately, he managed to keep a straight face.
Hearing the abrupt laughter of his two disciples, Wu Changkong immediately raised his leg and gave Xie Xie and Tang Wulin a light, disciplinary kick.
Glancing at the composed Linchen and Gu Yuena beside him, he said in a low voice, "Open the door."
The smooth glass door slid open to both sides, revealing a cold, pale blue glow within. Walking inside, they saw a circular metal platform with four bracelets hovering above it.
Wu Changkong instructed in a flat tone, "Put them on."
After everyone had donned them, Xie Xie looked at the bracelet on his wrist, full of curiosity, and couldn't help but ask, "Teacher Wu, what is this thing for?"
Wu Changkong explained solemnly, "These are identity verification bracelets. Only by wearing them can you ensure you won't be destroyed by the defense systems here."
Afterward, Wu Changkong led them to a deep-blue space. He performed some unknown operations on the side, a screen appeared before them, and after a series of inputs, everyone was teleported away.
Only Wu Changkong remained, standing alone before the light disc, quietly observing the assessment footage of the group.
As the blue light dissipated, Linchen landed firmly on his feet, and a female electronic voice echoed from the void above.
"Identity verification complete. Welcome to the Tang Sect Hall of Heroes."
"Initial trial, assessment difficulty: Advanced, age: ten years old."
"Assessment requirement: Persist for thirty seconds to pass."
The moment the words fell, the space in front of Linchen distorted, and a blurred figure slowly solidified. He raised his eyes to examine the opponent's appearance, and the more he looked, the more familiar it felt.
"Oh, isn't this little scoundrel? Perfect, I can beat him up ahead of schedule."
The Azure Dragon martial soul emerged behind Linchen, and strands of violent cyan lightning crackled continuously around his body.
The little scoundrel's expression was calm and ripple-free. His gaze locked onto Linchen, and the soul rings beneath his feet lit up in response. The first yellow, century-level soul ring flashed, and Blue Silver Grass sprouted wildly from the ground, dense and thick, sweeping toward Linchen from all directions while coated in potent toxins.
Linchen planted his feet firmly on the ground, and lightning erupted from his body. The flowing arcs of electricity slashed fiercely at the incoming Blue Silver Grass, shattering it instantly; it couldn't get within an inch of him.
Linchen flexed his wrists and muttered, "You should have absorbed that ten-year withered bamboo back then; at least then you could have used the Blue Silver pole vault in actual combat."
Cyan lightning surged and rose around Linchen. The two engaged in a fierce, back-and-forth struggle, with cyan lightning and Blue Silver Grass constantly colliding and exploding, the sound of thunder echoing incessantly.
After a brief exchange, a strange feeling gradually arose in Linchen's heart: Something feels wrong. This is clearly the Blue Silver Emperor, right? The Tang Sect Hall of Heroes is really pulling out all the stops.
However, Linchen's face remained calm and composed, without a hint of panic. Even though this virtual little scoundrel had an overpowered combat strength, he couldn't suppress him at all.
The battle reached a white-hot intensity. The cyan lightning that had filled the sky gradually faded, and a comical scene unfolded: floating in the air beside Linchen was the Thunder Hell Vine.
The little scoundrel was suspended in mid-air, held in a spread-eagled position by the lightning released by the Thunder Hell Vine.
Linchen walked calmly up to the bound Tang San, looked up at him, and a faint trace of playfulness and ruthlessness curled the corners of his mouth. He muttered to himself, "Since you once said I had a 'path to death,' today I'll let you taste the flavor of ultimate lightning."
As he spoke, his fingertips trembled slightly, and a strand of condensed cyan lightning shot out, striking Tang San precisely in the abdomen.
The violent lightning exploded instantly. The bound Tang San clone let out a shrill, miserable scream, his body twitching uncontrollably.
Tang San gasped for air, his eyes fixed on Linchen with a crimson glare, his bound limbs struggling in vain.
Watching him in this state, Linchen said mockingly, "That's the right flavor. How is it? Does this ultimate lightning feel good?"
He looked up at the remaining time: "That's enough. It's time to wrap up the game."
As the words fell, his arms were covered in a layer of cyan-gold dragon scales. Sharp, fierce dragon claws formed instantly, and he raised his hand to strike deep into Tang San's body.
Violent lightning poured in, and Tang San's red pupils suddenly dilated, dissolving into a sky full of fine blue light particles that vanished before Linchen's eyes.
The female electronic voice sounded again: "Yun Linchen, assessment target defeated. Assessment passed."
A soft blue light enveloped Linchen, and a second later, he was teleported outside. Opening his eyes, he saw Wu Changkong looking at him with a puzzled expression.
Being stared at like that by Wu Changkong made Linchen feel a bit uncomfortable. He scratched the back of his head and said, "Teacher Wu, don't stare at me so directly. I'll get shy."
Wu Changkong ignored his remark and asked on his own, "During the latter part of your assessment, there was a sudden signal anomaly, making it impossible to see the combat inside. When the screen recovered, the results showed that you had defeated the target and passed the assessment."
Several flashes of blue light followed as Xie Xie and Tang Wulin were teleported out. As soon as they landed, they hung their heads, their faces covered in bruises.
Gu Yuena's condition was no better; there were several faint bruises on her fair cheeks, clearly having suffered quite a bit during the assessment.
Seeing this, Linchen released his soul power, using the life attribute inherent to his martial soul to heal them.
Everyone recovered at a rate visible to the naked eye, which made Wu Changkong's eyes light up.
Xie Xie rubbed his healed cheek and let out a long sigh of relief: "My god, I thought I'd have to go back to the academy with a face full of injuries. Captain, your martial soul is actually pretty useful."
Gu Yuena looked up at Linchen beside her and said, "Thank you, Linchen. That person was truly difficult to deal with; it took a lot of effort to defeat him."
Linchen waved his hand: "No need for thanks between us. As long as you're okay."
Tang Wulin stretched his neck and said, "Thank you, Linchen."
Once everyone had recovered, Wu Changkong led them out and arrived at an office.
The room contained only a small desk and a few sofas; he gestured for them to sit.
Wu Changkong's gaze swept over them, and he said indifferently, "Do you know who you were facing?"
Xie Xie was the first to sit up straight upon hearing this, his face full of curiosity as he asked, "Teacher Wu, who are they? This is just too powerful."
Wu Changkong tapped his fingertips lightly against the tabletop and spoke indifferently, "The four of you are facing the top predecessors of the Tang Sect throughout the ages."
"Xie Xie is matched against the ancestor Jiang Nannan, the Demon Rabbit Douluo, one of the Shrek Seven Devils from ten thousand years ago."
"Tang Wulin is matched against the ancestor Xiao Xiao, who possessed Twin Martial Souls."
"Lin Chen is matched against the founder of the Tang Sect from twenty thousand years ago, the strongest person in history, Tang San."
"Gu Yuena is facing the ancestor Huo Yuhao, the Spirit Ice Douluo, founder of the Spirit Pagoda and one of the Shrek Seven Devils from ten thousand years ago."
Before Tang Wulin and Xie Xie could recover from their shock, Wu Changkong spoke again, "Have you ever heard of the Tang Sect..."
