Background / History

Tsunade had left Konoha before the novel’s present events and was living in Tanzaku Town, where she spent heavily on gambling and alcohol while Shizune attempted to restrain her. Kumogakure identified her as a target and planned to abduct her while she was drunk. 9 13 14

Jiraiya and Lin Zi—using the appearance of an alternate-world Orochimaru—located her in a gambling den. Tsunade’s drunkenness disappeared as soon as she sensed Lin Zi’s dangerous presence, and she later attacked him after mistaking his intentions. 16 17

During their confrontation, Lin Zi’s blood triggered Tsunade’s hemophobia. She was overwhelmed by visions of Dan and Nawaki dying, but Lin Zi confronted her guilt rather than exploiting her paralysis.
