Nature and Cultivation
Soul Beasts accumulate cultivation over years rather than advancing through human Soul Master ranks. Their years of cultivation, bloodline quality, attributes, and intelligence determine their strength and potential for transformation. An ordinary forty-thousand-year Soul Beast is comparable to a Soul Sage, while exceptional bloodlines can contend with Titled Douluo-level opponents before reaching one hundred thousand years 61.
Higher cultivation does not automatically grant human-level intelligence. The fifty-thousand-year Netherfire Lizard possessed spirituality but remained governed by instinct, while powerful ferocious beasts such as Di Tian and the Star Dou Great Forest’s leading Soul Beasts communicate and make long-term decisions 124 158.
Human Transformation
Ordinary hundred-thousand-year Soul Beasts may take human form, generally appearing as young children and beginning cultivation anew. This transformation differs from the Transformation Pill, which allows a Soul Beast to retain its physical strength, lifespan, and current cultivation while concealing its original aura 161 163.
The Transformation Pill offers Soul Beasts a choice between remaining in beast form or entering human society without resetting their cultivation. Its drawbacks include more difficult future breakthroughs; it is therefore unsuitable for Soul Beasts without sufficient foundation or ambition 161 162.
Heavenly Tribulations
High-level Soul Beasts face heavenly tribulations as their cultivation rises. Many Soul Beasts stalled below two hundred thousand years view the Beast Soul Contract as a means to evade these life-threatening tribulations and continue cultivating safely 124.
Xiao Yi proposes that a Soul Beast could theoretically use contracts to avoid tribulations until reaching one million years, then take a Transformation Pill and attempt to ascend to the godly realm. This remains a dangerous path dependent on exceptional foundation and talent 162.
Relationship with Soul Masters
Traditional Soul Rings
Soul Masters traditionally hunt Soul Beasts for Soul Rings, creating a fundamental conflict between the two races. Human advancement requires successive Soul Rings, but Soul Beasts require thousands or tens of thousands of years to gain comparable cultivation; this imbalance places the Soul Beast population at risk of eventual extinction 62 74.
Traditional Soul Ring absorption also depends on the Soul Master’s physical and spiritual strength, as the lingering spiritual impact of a Soul Beast can cause backlash 63.
Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils Contracts
Xiao Yi’s Triple Jade-Green Snake Flower Pupils can forcibly control compatible snake-, flood-dragon-, and dragon-type Soul Beasts. Each Soul Ring slot corresponds to one contracted Soul Beast, which grows alongside Xiao Yi and can be used for Martial Soul Possession 2.
