The firmament was a vast expanse of dim, withered yellow.
It clung to the sky like a layer of decaying bark, perpetually interpreting the essence of desolation.
Looking down, one could see countless dragon corpses, dotting and carpeting the desertified earth.
The dragon remains varied in size, species, and state of decay; one bone here, a carcass there, scattered and pressed against one another to form a singular, gargantuan painting:
The Dragon Tomb!
This was a world of the dead.
"Woo—"
The mournful wind drifted through the hollow skeletons, emitting a series of sorrowful wails.
At the center of this land lay a "wound."
It was a deep valley, its edges rimmed with remains, stretching across the very heart of this small world.
This deep valley was one of the three great treasure basins of the Douluo Plane:
The Otherworldly Dragon Valley.
Suddenly, at a certain moment.
From the deepest reaches of the secluded Dragon Valley, a ripple of nine colors burst forth.
The nine-colored ripple brushed across the earth and sky, awakening the final trace of vitality within this world of death.
The patches and clusters of cloud vapor in the sky were brought to life.
The withered yellow sky gradually evolved into a vibrant eight-colored hue, as if strands of dragon souls were opening their eyes from a dim, slumbering dream.
Deep within those eight-colored clouds.
A vast, expansive dragon language resonated, profound and grand.
It mimicked the tone of a chant, spreading through the sky like the long, weary sigh of an elder: "Ah—"
A phantom-like platinum dragon, riding upon the churning dragon clouds, thrust its massive head out from the eight-colored dragon aura.
White and gold, representing light and divinity.
The platinum dragon rose like a dragon-shaped sun within the small world of the Dragon Tomb, casting its holy radiance across heaven and earth.
Those phantom platinum eyes gazed devoutly toward the nine-colored mass deep within the Dragon Valley.
Yet, within its gaze, there was an indelible trace of regret.
"Father God, has even your physical body... been extinguished?" the platinum dragon let out a desperate, long sigh.
For just a moment ago, the Dragon God Heart deep within the Dragon Valley had resonated with the distant God Realm, triggering a ripple of information.
From this ripple, the platinum dragon had read the message: "The Golden Dragon King has fallen."
The sigh was like a dirge of the dragons, winding through the entire sky along with the platinum light.
"Oh, Dragon Race!"
"Is there truly no hope left for the revival of my kin..."
In an instant, the eight-colored dragon souls filling the sky were infected by the platinum dragon's emotions, each emitting mournful cries and wails, mourning the former glory of the dragon race.
These hoarse, weeping sounds traveled deep, deep into the underground, awakening a certain forbidden existence.
A pair of purple-gold vertical pupils opened in the deepest depths beneath the Dragon Tomb.
A terrifying will stirred, and with it, a brilliant aura of destruction bloomed in the deepest part of the tomb.
Countless sands were annihilated by the power of destruction, and a space at the earth's core was suddenly cleared.
As a purple crystalline luster rippled, a skeleton that occupied nearly the entire underground of the Dragon Tomb appeared in the deepest depths.
This massive carcass had been buried for unknown eons.
When the underground sand was cleared to create a space, this dragon-shaped giant skeleton had already crystallized, revealing a texture of purple amethyst under the influence of the lingering power of destruction.
And that colossal will, awakened by the wails from the surface, was rising from the head of the purple crystal dragon skeleton.
It then gradually ascended, thrusting toward the surface of the Dragon Valley...
In the sky, the eight-colored dragon clouds churned.
The holy platinum light gradually dimmed.
The cloud-riding, phantom platinum dragon: the Holy Dragon King.
It was like an old man at the end of his days; the heroic bearing that once belonged solely to it as the strongest Dragon King was fading and sinking away along with the fall of the King...
"Sigh..." The Holy Dragon King knew its time was at hand.
Its eyes, filled with despair, lingered reluctantly over the world of the Dragon Tomb, finally fixing upon its own increasingly translucent soul body...
The next second, as if it had reached a certain resolution, the dragon tail hidden within the clouds lashed out, whipping toward a spot on the earth, before pulling upward...
"Shhh—"
With a sharp, piercing sound, the tip of the Holy Dragon King's massive tail coiled around a dragon horn on the ground and hoisted it up.
The dragon horn was entirely pitch-black, resembling a curved blade, with the edge at the curve polished to a hidden, razor-sharp gleam.
The moment this pitch-black horn-blade appeared, the surrounding clouds and mists formed by dragon souls swirled and retreated, creating a hollow void as if they feared the blade's edge.
This was the dragon race's ritual weapon: the Dragon-Slaying Blade.
It had been forged from a dragon horn shed by the Dragon God during his own rebirth.
"Dragon-Slaying Blade, oh Dragon-Slaying Blade..."
The Holy Dragon King brought the Dragon-Slaying Blade close to his face, using two platinum dragon whiskers to gently stroke the pitch-black ritual weapon that had accompanied him for half his life and witnessed the rise and fall of the dragon race.
In this instant, a thousand memories flooded back...
The days of his transformation from the Light Dragon King into the Holy Dragon King, his assumption of the role of the dragon race's enforcer, and his marriage to the Dark Dragon King—it all felt as if it were only yesterday...
His platinum gaze drifted past the back of the blade, looking down toward that mass of nine-colored light deep within the Dragon Valley.
"Father God, this slumber of yours... it truly feels like a lifetime has passed."
Suddenly, the Holy Dragon King turned abruptly to face the sky, his dragon tail drooping as if gathering strength...
He let out a low, resonant cry: "But you, Dragon-Slaying Blade."
"You have already gained a spirit; you should not be trapped here in this tomb, gathering dust alongside This Seat!"
The Holy Dragon King let out a long roar, whipping his tail toward the firmament and hurling the Dragon-Slaying Blade with all his might.
The blade pierced through space, tore through the boundary of the Dragon Tomb, and whistled as it broke through the void, leaving behind a "scar" that would be difficult to heal.
Having followed destiny to send the Dragon-Slaying Blade out of the Dragon Tomb and lay the groundwork for the future Blade God Douluo, "Sima Jinchi," the Holy Dragon King seemed to have shed his final obsession.
He took out a Dark Crown, pressed his face against the diadem, and slowly closed his eyes.
"Old woman, my time is running short as well. It is time for me to go... and keep you company."
The holy light that had illuminated the sky began to retract, as if the sun were setting late.
The Holy Dragon King's soul body grew increasingly translucent. He opened his eyes to look down at the giant brown skeleton in the Dragon Valley, whispering with his soul: "Mountain Dragon, I am leaving. The Dragon Tomb shall rely on you to guard it from here on out..."
The remains of the Mountain Dragon King remained silent, as still and stoic as brown, distant mountains.
Half-rotted yellow bones lay exposed on the surface, and the desolate, bitter wind blew past from time to time, whistling through the hollow bone tubes.
It was as if a million departed souls were hunched over their own corpses, wailing in sorrow.
They were seeing off the once-greatest king.
The mournful wind stirred the dragon aura, sweeping across this withered, yellow land.
"BOOM!"
In an instant, the earth changed color.
A massive will surged forth, carrying a terrifying dragon might that broke through the surface of the Dragon Valley and raged across the vast world.
It was a colossal, terrifying dragon soul, hovering above the Dragon Valley.
As its destructive will steamed upward, it dyed half the sky a brilliant purple.
A pair of purple-gold vertical pupils, filled with boundless majesty, swept across the swarms of eight-colored dragon souls fleeing in panic, finally fixing upon a single platinum dragon.
A fierce, abyss-like dragon roar exploded across the heavens and earth:
"Di Guangming!"
"What are you howling about in my tomb with this bunch of dead dragons? Huh!"
The Holy Dragon King, who had been fading away, was so startled by the Amethyst Dragon Soul that he instantly brightened back into a layer of platinum gold.
"Emperor?"
The Holy Dragon King put away the Dark Crown.
He then respectfully lowered his dragon head and said calmly, "This humble one had no intention of disturbing your slumber; it is truly because..."
As he spoke, he looked down at the Dragon Valley once more, a trace of sorrow seeping into his eyes again.
"Is he dead?" The Amethyst Dragon Soul seemed to have sensed something as well.
After all, he and the Dragon God's physical body, the Golden Dragon King, had once been twin brothers.
However, unexpectedly, the Amethyst Dragon Soul threw his head back and laughed: "Good! Dead, well-deserved, truly well-deserved!"
"He schemed against the Phoenix to plunder creation, and then joined forces to surround and kill me to strip away destruction—this is truly retribution, hahahaha—"
"First his wife died, then his own son, abandoned by all, ending up without a whole corpse, his entire clan shattered."
"The divine positions of the Phoenix and myself—were they really so easy to take? Hahaha!"
The shrill laughter echoed through the world, once again confirming the desolation before them.
Yet the Holy Dragon King could only stand to the side, eyes closed, listening quietly like a junior.
Even though the other was slandering his own Father God and exposing those unbearable, bygone events of the dragon race... as the strongest Dragon King, he could only silently endure it, because—
This massive dragon soul, whether in life or in death, possessed a status equal to the Dragon God; it was a supreme existence that none of the Nine True Dragon Kings or any other dragon dared to criticize.
If the Dragon God was the source of the True Dragon race among the dragons.
Then this Amethyst Dragon Soul, in its lifetime, was the Sub-Dragon Origin.
It was precisely the figure from Dragon Clan legend: the twin of the Dragon God, the common ancestor of the Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon Clan.
In years past, within the Divine Dragon Realm, it held the esteemed title of "Above the Nine Kings, standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the Gods."
The dragons of the Divine Dragon Realm established this Dragon Tomb with the original intent of burying this "Emperor."
And among the ten million dragons, only this Emperor possessed the qualification to point at the Dragon God Heart below and curse it.
Even in their terror, the dragon souls stood in awe at the edge of the sky; not a single dragon dared to interrupt the Emperor's venting.
The Amethyst Dragon Soul roared for a long while before gradually drawing the will of destruction that had dyed half the sky purple back into its soul body.
The purple-gold vertical pupils glared at Dragon Valley one last time, viciously stating: "If my physical body were still intact, you would be the first thing I chewed to pieces, Divine Core and all."
The Amethyst Dragon Soul descended toward the ground with its will of destruction, seemingly preparing to return to its boundless slumber.
As the Dragon Emperor's voice ceased, silence returned to the world...
The Holy Dragon King continued to cradle the crown of his late wife, his expression one of indifference toward life and death, quietly waiting for his own soul body to dissipate.
The eight-colored dragon souls filling the sky also faded back into withered, yellow-hued clouds.
Just as the Dragon Clan was about to slowly fade into history in this sorrowful manner...
The Amethyst Dragon Soul suddenly turned its head on the ground and addressed the sky: "Di Guangming."
"I have a way to restore the glory of the Dragon Clan, and even recreate a Five-Dimensional Divine Star to provide for the reproduction and survival of my Dragon Clan and even billions of other beasts."
"Are you willing to follow me?"
A brief silence fell over the small world of the Dragon Tomb, and then the heavens and earth erupted.
The clouds filling the sky awakened once more, and the eight-colored dragon clouds gathered around the Dragon Emperor's soul body.
Even the skeletons on the surface began to sprout soul bodies one after another.
Even the Mountain Dragon King's trunk bone, steady as a mountain, revealed faint fluctuations of a soul.
They all awakened, waiting quietly for the Dragon Emperor to continue.
Not for any other reason, but simply because these words were spoken by an "Emperor" whose status was equal to that of the Dragon God; that alone was authority enough.
But as the Dragon God's primary follower, the Holy Dragon King maintained a pessimistic attitude: "That is impossible."
"Speaking only of your claim to 'recreate a Five-Dimensional Divine Star,' this humble one believes it cannot be done."
"After all, back then, in order for our clan to shape the Divine Dragon Realm into a Divine Star, even the Crown Prince personally offered his body and soul, and only then was the Divine Star initially formed."
This topic was too heavy; it was precisely because the Divine Crown Prince had been lured into sacrifice that the Dragon God went mad, causing the once-mighty Dragon Clan to collapse in a single day.
That was why the thousands of dragon souls and the Holy Dragon King did not quite believe the Dragon Emperor's ethereal words.
The Holy Dragon King continued: "Furthermore, you have long since perished, and your Destruction Godhead was stripped away by my Father God long ago. What capital do you have to speak of restoring our vast Dragon Clan?"
Once these words were spoken, the dragon souls, who had been somewhat excited, fell into low spirits, preparing to sink back into slumber.
Who would have thought that the Dragon Emperor would not answer the Holy Dragon King's question directly, but instead counter-questioned: "Do you think I cannot create a Divine Realm on my own?"
"Then I ask you, if I were to combine the True Dragon Origin with the Sub-Dragon Origin, would I not be able to open up a Five-Dimensional Divine Realm with my own strength?"
The Holy Dragon King was confused and asked: "What do you mean?"
The Dragon Emperor's soul body shook its head and sighed: "It seems you True Dragons never once considered this point..."
"When I and your Father God combined, regardless of who devoured whom, an unimaginable supreme existence would have been born."
"That existence, in terms of bloodline alone, would inevitably have grown to a level surpassing the Supreme Gods!"
"For such an existence, what difficulty could there be in merely creating a Five-Dimensional Divine Realm?"
"If, back then, after killing me, he had devoured my corpse and fused my Sub-Dragon Origin bloodline into his True Dragon Origin body, he could have at least kept his wife from dying, kept his son safe, and kept my thousands of dragons glorious to this day!"
"It is just a pity that, relying on his 'world-shaking wisdom,' he ultimately failed to consider this point."
As he spoke, the Dragon Emperor looked into the depths of Dragon Valley, as if looking at a useless, spineless coward.
"But it is all too late now," the Holy Dragon King remained pessimistic.
He listed the reasons one by one: "Not to mention that Father God's physical body is dead—even if it weren't, and he still existed within the Divine Realm."
"The laws of the Divine Realm have long since changed; beasts are not allowed to enter. The Divine Realm is no longer the 'home' that you or I can break into. Even if we exhausted the power of the thousands of dragon souls in this Dragon Tomb, it would be impossible to rescue the Golden Dragon King."
"No!" The Dragon Emperor denied this with a single word.
He explained the reason: "I can sense it clearly through our twin connection: although his physical body was destroyed, his Divine Core and his entire bloodline still persist in this world, and they are right here in the plane to which the Dragon Tomb is attached."
"As long as I descend into this 'Douluo' plane, find, and devour this 'him' who is clinging to life, I can achieve the union of the True Dragon Origin and the Sub-Dragon Origin, thereby surpassing the Supreme God realm and opening up a Five-Dimensional Divine Star!"
"It is just that simple, and it is exactly what I intend to do."
"Is this true!" The Holy Dragon King immediately became excited.
Even his white-gold radiance ceased to be dim, as if glowing with a second spring.
At this moment, a white-gold sun rose once more amidst the eight-colored dragon clouds, and the holy light reappeared, illuminating the eight directions of the universe.
The Holy Dragon King piously answered the initial question: "My Emperor! This humble one is willing to follow you to restore the glory of the Dragon Clan!"
Within the pocket dimension of the Dragon Tomb, tens of thousands of dragon souls surged in a frenzy.
Countless dragon souls converged, transforming into an eight-colored torrent that circled the Dragon Emperor, all wishing to bolster his soul form by even a fraction, laying the foundation for the dragon race's path to restoration.
The Dragon Emperor paid no heed to the fawning of these dragon auras; or rather, he did not wish to absorb these soul clouds of the True Dragon clan.
After all, he had to maintain the purity of the source of all sub-dragons.
The Amethyst Dragon Soul sank back toward the depths of the earth, leaving behind these final words: "Without the remains in the earth to serve as an anchor, my soul form cannot linger in the Douluo Plane for long, so I shall quickly reincarnate into a new body."
"For this very moment, I have laid plans across the planes outside this tomb for tens of thousands of years."
"I have even used the name 'Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon' to project my own image into the form of a martial soul, deeply rooting it within the bloodline of a human family surnamed Xu, all for the sake of my complete descent today."
"Go, Di Guangming. In your own way, leave this graveyard of the dragon race and find my new reincarnated self."
"With my rebirth, I shall leverage the entire dragon race—to regain its former glory!"
The Holy Dragon King hovered in the sky, bowing his head toward the Amethyst Dragon Soul as it submerged into the earth, and let out a long roar: "May your path be smooth, I respectfully send off my Emperor."
As the platinum dragon head lifted.
The Holy Dragon King did not linger for even a moment. After casting one last gaze at Dragon Valley, he turned to face the sky, transformed into a platinum soaring dragon, and charged headlong toward the very zenith of the firmament.
The platinum soaring dragon struck the heavens, flew into the rift cleaved open by the Dragon-Slaying Blade, and vanished into the shimmering starry sky beyond...
Clarifying the settings of the original work to reduce points of contention in the future.
1. Why is the Dragon God's twin referred to as: Dragon Emperor?
First, there are only two beings with the highest bloodline of the dragon race:
The Dragon God and his twin.
Because of these two existences, the dragon race is divided into two lineages:
The True Dragon lineage and the Sub-Dragon lineage.
The Dragon God is the source of the True Dragon lineage and the foster father of the Nine Great Dragon Kings;
The Dragon God's twin is the source of the Sub-Dragon lineage, which is the ancestor of the Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon Clan (as established in The Unrivaled Tang Sect).
The Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon Clan is the true ancestor of the sub-dragons; the twin gave birth to the Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon Clan, and the Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon Clan then created the sub-dragon lineage.
The reason this twin is called the Dragon Emperor, rather than a Dragon King, is because in the settings of the four Douluo series, the Nine Great Dragon Kings are the foster children of the Dragon God, making them the niece and nephew of the twin by generation.
Therefore, the settings of "Dragon God's foster child" and "Dragon God's brother" are contradictory. Thus, the twin's title within the dragon race is definitely not King, but a higher rank: Emperor. (For the twin titles of God and Emperor, one can refer to the pair of Dragon God Douluo and Dragon Emperor Douluo in Douluo 2; after all, much of the plot in Douluo 3 is copied and pasted from Douluo 2, and many comments in the original work have consistently reflected this issue.)
2. Since the True Dragons have Dragon Kings, do the Sub-Dragon clans have a Dragon King?
Yes, the Tyrant Dragon is the clearly defined King of the Sub-Dragons in the original work. That ancestor of the Tyrant Dragons who was buried in the Dragon Tomb, possessing dragon wings, was one of the kings of the sub-dragon race in the Divine Dragon Realm.
However, because the twin was besieged and killed by the Dragon God and the Nine Great Dragon Kings, the kings of the sub-dragon race were likely liquidated in that same slaughter, being buried in the Dragon Tomb alongside the twin.
That buried ancestor of the Tyrant Dragons serves as evidence.
3. The Dragon Tomb was initially established to bury the ancestor of the Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon.
The Dragon Tomb pocket dimension existed long before the extinction of the dragon race and was simply put to use when the race perished;
As for the Dragon God's twin, the ancestor of the Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon, he died at the hands of his twin brother long before the creation of the God Star, so it is certain that his corpse is buried in the Dragon Tomb pocket dimension.
One could even say that the Dragon God created the Dragon Tomb pocket dimension specifically to mourn his twin and provide a place for his burial.
4. Why is the Holy Dragon King called: Di Guangming?
Because his son, Di Tian, has the surname Di.
Di Tian's master was the Dragon God, and Di Tian's parents were the Holy Dragon King and the Dark Dragon King, so his father, the Holy Dragon King, should also likely have the surname: Di.
And since the Holy Dragon King evolved from the Light Dragon King, the name Di Guangming is the most logical (after all, the Asura God is directly named Asura, and the Light Dragon King is directly named Guangming, which conforms to the naming conventions of the original work).
5. The reason the Holy Dragon King is not called the Light Dragon King is that he emulated the old comrade-in-arms of his father-god: the Progenitor Tiger King (a giant gold and black tiger, who in terms of generation was the uncle of the nine sons of the Dragon God, equal in status to the ancestor of the Purple Radiance Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon and the Phoenix God King; his only living descendant is the Tiger King Blue Butterfly on the Elf Star in Douluo 4).
He sublimated his light attribute, thereby evolving into the holy attribute.
The white Light Dragon King took this opportunity to leap forward, evolving into the golden Holy Dragon King, becoming the strongest of the Nine Great Dragon Kings, marrying the Dark Dragon King, taking up the law-enforcing Dragon-Slaying Blade, managing the order of the True Dragon clan, and reaching the pinnacle of his dragon life...
Trivia: The setting that light evolves into holy also exists in the angel system; for example, two-winged angels have the light attribute, evolve into four-winged holy angels to master the holy attribute, and upon gaining wings of fire on this basis, become six-winged seraphim, with seraphim also being known as sun angels (Qian Renxue used this in the finale of Douluo 1).
Since light can evolve into holy, what can darkness evolve into, relatively speaking?
Darkness can naturally evolve into the evil attribute; in the original work, one can refer to the Dark Demon Evil God Tiger, whose setting is that darkness evolves into evil.
However, the Dark Dragon King (Di Tian's biological mother) did not evolve into the evil attribute based on ultimate darkness, but was instead granted the power of annihilation by the Dragon God.
In summary: The Holy Dragon King mastered ultimate light and ultimate holiness, while the Dark Dragon King mastered ultimate darkness and the power of annihilation.
Di Tian inherited his father's golden eyes and his mother's ultimate darkness and throne.
The couple was the most powerful faction among the Dragon Kings in the Divine Dragon Realm at the time, so powerful that they could send their own son into the Dragon God's palace to learn one of the remnant moves of the "Dragon God Transformation": the Dragon God Claw.
6. The Dragon-Slaying Blade was forged from a dragon horn that fell off after the Dragon God underwent his rebirth. It was bestowed upon the strongest Dragon King at the time: the Holy Dragon King, with the command to act as the law enforcer of the entire Divine Dragon Realm and lead the Nine Great Dragon Kings in maintaining the order of the Divine Dragon Realm.
7. The peak period of the Divine Dragon Realm:
The Dragon God, the Nine Great Dragon Kings, and the ancestor of the Purple Imperial Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon.
Together, they maintained a balanced triangle:
Creation, Order, and Destruction.
However, later on, the Dragon God led the Nine True Dragon Kings to surround and kill the ancestor of the Purple Imperial Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon, thereby breaking the triangular balance and indirectly leading the entire Dragon Race toward extinction.
(This balanced triangle was likely written by the author with reference to the Hindu "Trimurti," as gods like Asura and Rakshasa were also inspired by Hindu mythology.)
8. The Dragon God is not a benevolent figure.
The Dragon God ascended to the Supreme God Realm by fusing the dual godheads of "Creation and Destruction."
However, the Creation godhead originated from the Phoenix God King, and the Destruction godhead likely originated from the ancestor of the Purple Imperial Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon.
After all, it is certain that the ancestor of the Purple Imperial Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon was a peak God King during its lifetime, mastering one of the universe's primordial laws: Destruction (the other law is Creation: creating life and spirituality; after completing Spirit Forging at the fifth level, a trace of the power of creation is produced, which is in the hands of the Phoenix God King).
Therefore, please do not paint the Dragon God as a purely righteous figure, because his predatory method of cultivation, when viewed through human values, is that of a pure evil cultivator (Evil Soul Master, Fallen One).
Furthermore, the entire clan of the Purple Imperial Heaven-Extinguishing Dragon consisted of the Dragon God's own nephews and nieces; they were the only dragon kin related to him at the time (the Dragon Crown Prince had not yet been born).
Yet, he slaughtered them all with his own hands, likely for the purpose of refining the power of destruction to repair his fractured Destruction godhead (the twin dragons likely exerted too much force while resisting, causing their godheads to shatter, much like the final Angel God, Qian Renxue).
Of course, the Dragon God received his due retribution, as the Creation godhead and the Destruction godhead were mutually exclusive (Evil Soul Masters in The Unrivaled Tang Sect who cultivate through plunder all suffer from internal self-rejection in the later stages). This led to him developing split personality disorder, eventually driving him to madness after his son's sacrifice (refer to Douluo IV, where the remnant soul of the Dragon God warns Lan Yuxuan to be wary of the rejection between the godheads of Creation and Destruction; the fact that the young Dragon God also went mad due to this issue shows that the root of the Dragon God's madness was the mutual repulsion of the dual godheads that did not belong to him...).
Very well, now that the settings have been emphasized, please enjoy this grand production, dear readers!
