Background

Tang San was studying at Nuoding Academy before his eventual arrival at Shrek Academy. Lin Xiao had already formed a hostile opinion of him and intended to “beat Tang San senseless” upon reaching Shrek. 17

At Shrek's entrance assessment, Tang San arrives in blue clothing with Xiao Wu and the other applicants. He initially mistakes the bearded Oscar for an older man and calls him “Uncle,” only to learn that Oscar is fourteen. 20

Tang San joins the other applicants in the assessment against Zhao Wuji. When Lin Xiao replaces Zhao Wuji as their opponent, Tang San refuses to concede and uses hidden weapons against him. Lin Xiao cuts the projectiles apart with sword qi and sends the fallen needles back into Tang San's body, forcing him to admit defeat before he loses consciousness. 22 23

Personality

Tang San is stubborn and highly determined under pressure. During the Shrek assessment, he insists that “there are no useless martial souls, only useless soul masters” and refuses to surrender despite the overwhelming difference between his group and Lin Xiao. 22

He is also tactical and willing to use lethal methods against enemies. He prepares the Godly Zhuge Crossbow while facing Meng Shu, kills Meng Yiran during the confrontation with the Peerless Dragon Snake couple, and later executes Black Star with the same weapon. 33 34 60

His conduct is not uniformly ruthless. In Soul Fighting matches, he deliberately refrains from activating the explosive effect of his Third Soul Skill against opponents who have surrendered. He later accepts responsibility for failing to protect Oscar and Ning Rongrong during the Black Hawk Team battle. 55 62

After Xiao Wu is taken by the Titan Giant Ape, Tang San pursues the beast alone. He subsequently battles and defeats a three-thousand-year Man Faced Demon Spider despite being poisoned by it. 32 33

His victory leads to a confrontation with Meng Shu, Chao Tianxiang, and Meng Yiran. Tang San kills Meng Yiran, is severely injured by her grandparents, and is saved from death by Lin Xiao. 34

Lin Xiao removes the Eight Spider Lance Bone from the Man Faced Demon Spider before Tang San can obtain it, then convinces Tang San to absorb a weaker sheep ring as his third soul ring. 35
