Babata remained alone within the Black Ink Star Ship on Mist Island for over 50,000 years after Hu Yanbo's death. Bound by his late master's wish to find a successor, he monitored Earth and waited for a genius capable of inheriting the legacy. His isolation left him burdened by grief, loneliness, and an intense desire to avenge Hu Yanbo against the Demon Hand King. 36 49

When Luo Feng and Shi Fen arrived on Mist Island, Babata initially sought to draw both into action with the Cloud-Touching Vine, Beast Emperor bait, and Wood Bud Crystals. Shi Fen's ability to control 33 flying knives, fight nearly 150 monsters, and begin comprehending a Domain overturned Babata's assumptions about Earth natives. The subsequent emergence of Domains in Shi Fen, Hong, Thor, and Luo Feng left him convinced that Earth had produced unprecedented geniuses. 36 38
