Getting on Her Good Side
With Fran joining the battle, the skeletons were quickly cleared out by the two of them working together.
These skeletons already struggled to fight even Elf, let alone with Fran added to the mix.
The battle ended after the last skeleton's bones cracked into pieces and fell to the ground with a clatter.
The Elf turned to look at Fran, her eyes filled with complex emotions. She wanted to speak but didn't know how, especially as her gaze kept drifting towards Fran's exposed normal human ears.
Finally, Fran spoke first.
"Hey, this is the first time I've ever met Elf. Are you alright?"
"It's alright... You can call me Anna, hello, my 'comrade'."
Fran paused for a moment, then said:
"My name is Fran. You might have mistaken me for someone else. I'm not an Elf, I'm a human..."
Fran knew very little about the Elf race. These School often kept such matters about other races secret, so she only knew that there were many races in the world, but didn't know the details.
Fran naturally couldn't apply her preconceived notions from her past life to this. Besides, in her past life, there were all sorts of Elf characters, so how would she know which one it was?
Anna was taken aback, then paused for a moment, and said:
"That's right, with your appearance, you must live among humans."
Then Anna paused for a moment and continued:
"No matter what, my eyes and senses don't lie. You do indeed have Elf blood, and even possess a unique sense within you. It's just that you don't have ears like those."
"The Elven Swordsmanship you just displayed has convinced me that you most likely possess Elf blood."
Fran clicked her tongue and retorted:
"This doesn't make sense. I remember my Elven Swordsmanship teacher also knew Elven Swordsmanship..."
Anna suddenly interrupted her and said:
"Do those humans who claim to know Elven Swordsmanship really know it?"
"They will never be able to sense the composition of the air and use that extra organ to alter the composition of the surrounding air, thereby achieving easy turning in the air..."
Fran blinked and said with some curiosity:
"But I remember there's a Transmutation School' among mages, right? They can modify other people's or their own organs to gain more abilities. If someone had Elf organ transplanted into them, they could do that too!"
Anna responded with a smile:
"No, those Transmutation School will never succeed. You may not know, but the brains of humans, and other races, cannot process the information from this Elf organ. They cannot use it, even if they connect it to their bodies, it will have no effect."
Fran nodded. She genuinely didn't know about this matter; it was a matter for the Transmutation School. Given how fiercely these School were about protecting their knowledge, how could she possibly know anything about the modification of Elf?
She had only asked out of pure curiosity, and hadn't expected such a thing to happen.
However, she probably didn't have any extra organs, but she did experience a sensation similar to that described by Elf organs.
Furthermore, given her current limited knowledge of Transmutation Studies, it's highly unlikely that this type of Transmutation Surgery would involve brain modification.
The principles of the brain were shrouded in mystery in her previous life, and in the Magic World, even if there were methods to affect the brain, they would probably be indirect.
She snapped out of her reverie and began to ask Anna:
"Then... Anna, why are you in the Northern Territory? I don't remember this being Elf territory, right?"
Anna looked slightly embarrassed upon hearing the question and did not answer immediately.
Fran, who looks like a pure human, is fine here, but there's a problem with her having Elf features.
Even Fran knew that the Elf ' territory was very far from here.
Fran had only heard of two activity areas that were relatively 'close' to the Alliance.
One route is to head west along the mainland, passing through dozens of countries and regions, until you reach the Elven Forest, which is the traditional habitat of the Elf.
Another route is to the east, by sea, through specific waterways, which leads to the area around the Elven Archipelago, where Elf also live.
However, this route alone would take at least a month to reach the Elven Archipelago.
Fran guessed that Anna must have come from the Elven Archipelago, and that the land route passed through too many countries. It would be too difficult for a First Order Profession to traverse so many countries without success.
"I landed at White Dragon Port and came to the Northern Territory with a small team. My Profession is Ranger, you know, if I want to advance, I basically have to become Adventurer or Mercenary."
The Ranger class is in a rather awkward Profession. It is a relatively flexible Profession, and its strengths lie in kiting and ranged attacks, as well as the ability to quickly adapt to dangerous environments.
This Profession characteristic makes them essentially useless in many powerful factions.
For example, if you are fighting against another faction and you want to investigate their preparations, a brand new Battlefield Profession will emerge: the Vanguard Knight.
This Profession has specialized intelligence gathering abilities and a certain level of combat capability. They are also much tougher than Ranger. No normal person would choose to be Ranger.
Therefore, Ranger is more of an individual Profession. In many cases, their Profession status is not as high as that of a warrior who has risen from the Spirit Realm. However, in terms of personal survival, Ranger are indeed much stronger than other Profession.
"So what are you doing in the Northern Territory? Judging from your appearance, you're probably not from the Northern Territory, are you?"
Anna took a closer look at Fran's appearance. She didn't look like a normal Northern Territory in the cold environment. Just from her facial features, it was clear that Fran was not a Northern Territory.
Fran rolled her eyes, then said directly:
"I am Battle Mage from the Alliance. I'm here to complete a quest from the Snow Bear Territory Lord: to hunt down an Undead in the mines. Were those skeletons summoned by an Undead from one of the mines?"
We're not far from that mine now; these skeletons might have been summoned by that Undead.
Fran made no attempt to conceal her true purpose. In her view, it was completely unnecessary. She disguised herself as someone of Elf blood simply to extract information from Anna before her.
Furthermore, based on Fran's guess, the other party was most likely one of the thieves, rather than one of the Mercenary.
This can be seen from the other party's behavior.
A true Mercenary is bound to value their life highly and is likely to lose it during long missions, so a Ranger is almost never able to act alone.
Because the Ranger's direct combat ability is somewhat weaker compared to other melee Profession, a small team often has one Ranger, but they are mostly responsible for gathering intelligence and setting traps.
No Ranger would act as Mercenary and go about their business alone, because Ranger themselves know just how weak their direct combat ability is in the First Order.
Upon hearing Fran's words, Anna's eyes widened, her hands trembled violently for a moment, then she forced herself to regain her composure and said in a clear voice:
"You're a mage from the Alliance?!"
