Loderis, the City of Apprentices, Law Enforcement Building.
The enforcement captain jogged to Ka'erfu's table and said:
"Sir Investigator, the day you asked us to keep an eye out for transporting the corpses out of the city is today. Tonight, those Mercenary will take all the bodies out."
"Good. We'll go there for a surprise inspection when they stop handing over the bodies at 6 p. m."
The captain of the law enforcement team was somewhat confused, so he asked:
"Sir, why do we need to go for an inspection? This has nothing to do with..."
Ka'erfu waved his hand and said:
"You're not a member of either of these School, so you probably don't know."
"In fact, the most common way for those apprentices to purchase corpse materials is from this crippled corpse delivery point."
"Those Mercenary also know that the apprentices need corpses. As an extremely dangerous Profession, they naturally have no shortage of corpses in their work. Although the corpses are not as high-quality as those specially selected by merchants, they have the advantage of quantity."
"As long as the apprentices know how to pick out usable corpses, they can save a lot of money, and the Mercenary are even more willing to make such a deal. Exchanging worthless corpses for copper coins is simply too good to pass up."
"What we need to capture is a Mercenary Hyde, who specializes in selling the corpse materials he collects by the deadline for delivering the bodies, and he specifically sells them to the Transmutation School."
"That Mercenary never imagined that what used to be a perfunctory search would actually cost him his life, and his specialty of selling to the Transmutation School Transmutation School will also cause trouble for them..."
The captain of the law enforcement officers looked at Ka'erfu, who was about to laugh, but he raised an eyebrow and said nothing more.
Although he was still puzzled as to how this was related to the disappearance of the head of the Transmutation School they were investigating, Ka'erfu's mention of the trouble it would cause for the Transmutation School wisely silenced him.
Although the law enforcers are considered powerful figures in the City of Apprentices, and many apprentices have to obey their orders, it's best for them not to ask too many questions when it comes to matters related to their School.
Fran concealed her face, put on a gray-black robe, covered her head with a hood, and also wore a pair of thick black gloves.
Before she even reached her destination, she felt hot and was sweating profusely. She had to put down the body bag she was carrying and hold it up with her Telekinetic Hand to reduce the heat generated by her body.
Having finally arrived at her destination, she reached into her hood and brushed a strand of hair damp with sweat back to ease the discomfort. All she wanted now was to finish quickly and get back home.
She walked straight toward the queue, which ended in a small house. Even with a dozen or so people between them, Fran could smell the stench emanating from inside.
The line moved quickly, and soon it was Fran's turn. Fran used her Telekinetic Hand to carry the corpse into the room.
Upon entering the room, the first thing she smelled was an extremely strong stench. The house had many ventilation openings, and several Mercenary were sitting leisurely upwind.
Fran followed the actions of the person in front of her, threw the body on the ground, and was surprised to find that she could leave, because the person in front of her had also left without any inspection.
No way, they didn't even check the body before leaving.
Her powerful Mental Power allowed her to hear the Mercenary ' hushed conversations, thus answering her questions.
"Aren't we going to examine the bodies while we're all sitting here? I remember that monk specifically told us to open them and examine them."
"You're new here, aren't you? You don't know that those mages mention this almost every time. So what if he gave a few more copper coins this time?"
"It stinks there, you can go if you want."
"If we really go for an examination, do you think those problematic apprentices will use us as examples? What if they cast a spell on you, fool you, and then accidentally damage your brain? Who will you complain to then?"
Fran then realized that these Mercenary dared not inspect the place. It made sense; anyone who could keep these apprentices in check would have to be a member of the School for many years. How could a group of Mercenary possibly find anything unusual by guarding the place?
However, the old mage still has a normal sense of smell. Normally, if a corpse smells a bit bad, he would just throw it here. Why would he come here to guard a corpse that has been sitting for who knows how long?
However, this also gave her the opportunity to fish in troubled waters. Although she was not afraid of conflict, she still thought it best to avoid trouble if possible.
She walked out of the small house, never expecting things to go so smoothly.
"Halt, everyone! The Alliance enforcement team and the Alliance special Investigator."
Several people in law enforcement uniforms, carrying something resembling a cordon, quickly surrounded the scene, causing a commotion.
Several Mercenary outside couldn't stand still and ran off in another direction, leaving the apprentice who was talking to them somewhat bewildered.
However, the law enforcement officers were prepared, and some of them quickly rushed forward. One Mercenary was a little slow and was caught and pinned to the ground.
"Damn it, someone got away. I'm going to chase after them."
However, the Mercenary seemed very experienced and ran very fast, disappearing in the blink of an eye. Several law enforcement officers immediately gave chase.
Meanwhile, the apprentices next to her began to whisper among themselves:
"What's going on? Why are law enforcement officers here?"
"I don't know. I think we'd better not make a move. I also overheard the Alliance's Investigator..."
"What Investigator?"
Fran looked at the chaotic scene before her and shook her head helplessly. How did she end up in such a mess?
Although she could easily escape now, given that everyone around her is a mage, and she possesses a high level of physical strength, she has no reason to back down from their pursuit.
She also has Breathing Technique that specializes in speed. If she were to activate her Mental Power as well, it's estimated that unless the opponent sends First Order melee Profession, they wouldn't be able to catch her.
However, she had made a lot of effort to conceal her identity before coming here, and she believed that as long as there was no thorough search, she could get away with it and there was no need for her to run away now and attract attention.
Moreover, she knew about the Investigator from the Alliance that had just been mentioned, and she had some knowledge of that identity...
If I'm not mistaken, only Formal Mage can perform this role. If she runs away now, there's no guarantee that the other side won't use some tracking spell to follow her.
If she finds that Formal Mage and delivers a powerful blow, he won't have time to cast a spell, and she can escape at his mercy.
Ka'erfu walked over from the other side of the street, accompanied by several law enforcement members carrying a few Mercenary. Upon closer inspection, the mercenaries were indeed the runaway Mercenary.
"Which of you is named Hyde?"
He stepped forward and spoke slowly.
