After hearing Janice out, Taelan Fordring fell into thought.

He needed to check on the old woman. He had to find out what was causing her memory loss. There were many possible causes: she might have fallen and hit her head, been poisoned, or, of course, been affected by magic.

During his three years with the Order of the Silver Hand, Taelan Fordring had learned a great deal about weapons and combat techniques. That included how to identify poisons. And his Cleansing Aura was the bane of slow-acting poisons.

He let the Holy Light protection fade, asked where the woman was, and told Janice to go on ahead. He was going to act at once. Then he woke his fellow knights and asked the mage traveling with them to strengthen their protections.

He began patrolling himself and soon found the room. Janice was a cautious woman. She knew that if those people hadn't killed anyone, they didn't want to draw the attention of the law. That was why she had dared to keep the woman in her home.

As a matter of fact, Lordaeron's lawkeepers and Secret Council were far more reliable than Stormwind's guards and SI:7. After all, everyone knew that Stormwind's guards were full of all sorts of people, not just the King's men!

And SI:7 could handle anything except its actual job. That powerful Shaw always dropped the ball at the critical moment. If this were the real world, he'd be the first one killed to make an example of.

Whenever Taelan Fordring thought about this, he was reminded of the Secret Council, and couldn't help grumbling: how could the mighty Secret Council of Lordaeron have known nothing about the Cult of the Damned spreading the plague?

Taelan soon met the old woman. She was terribly frail.
