Appearance
Hina is introduced as a young woman who appears to be twenty-seven or twenty-eight, with a crisp, commanding appearance 86.
- Hair: Long, light pink, and parted down the middle 86.
- Clothing: Rose-red business suit beneath a Navy Justice coat 86.
- Accessories: Purple-lensed sunglasses and purple gloves 86.
- Distinguishing habit: Frequently carries a cigarette between her lips; she discards it and removes her gloves before deploying her Black Cage Barrier against Nicholas 86 94.
Personality
Hina is proud, sharp-tongued, and quick to assert her authority. During her first encounter with Ship No. 6, she condemns its crew for threatening fellow Marines, but also privately decides to transfer the subordinate whose offensive remarks caused the confrontation. Her anger can become vindictive: after Bai Ina humiliates her, she restrains him and uses psychological torment to punish him, while explicitly ruling out physical torture because his injuries could make it fatal 86 88 89.
Her conduct also shows courage and protectiveness. She rescues enslaved people and defends her warship when pirates hired by the slave catchers pursue it. With Bai Ina, her combative manner gradually gives way to affection: she comforts him during a difficult decision, nervously initiates their romance, and accepts his departure rather than obstructing his choice—even knowing he might never return to the Marines 93 94 96 97.
Hina is possessive in love and refuses to accept Hancock's claim that she is merely Bai Ina's mistress. Nevertheless, she later agrees to Robin joining their relationship when doing so offers a way to restore Bai Yi's arms and improve his chances of surviving his next battle 174 201.
Abilities & Skills
Bind-Bind Fruit
Hina produces pitch-black steel bars through her Devil Fruit, using them for restraint, defense, and direct attacks 88 94 95.
- Restraint: Secures Bai Ina's wrist, waist, and legs to his wheelchair, leaving him completely bound 88.
- Black Cage Barrier: Generates numerous iron bars from her hands and combines them into an airtight shield covering the warship's stern 94.
- Durability: The barrier withstands Nicholas's initial cannon blast with only a slight dent 94.
- Limits: A subsequent cannon shell drives Hina backward despite her bracing against the deck 94.
- Offense: Attacks Bai Ina with black barriers after their confrontation escalates; later strikes him on the head with a Black Cage during an argument 89 95.
Command
Hina commands a Marine fleet and uses her rank to enforce discipline, question other officers, and direct her subordinates 86 93.
- Investigates the dispute between her subordinate and Ship No. 6 rather than accepting his complaint without explanation 86.
- Leads the rescue of people aboard a slave transport convoy 93.
- Brings her Marines to Ogar Island and orders them to cheer for Bai Ina's side from the battlefield's outskirts 182.
Interrogation Knowledge
Hina describes interrogation as part of Marine training and demonstrates familiarity with coercive methods 89.
- Uses psychological torment against the restrained Bai Ina 89.
- Avoids physical torture in that encounter because his existing wounds could cause him to die 89.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Conflict with Ship No. 6
Hina arrives during a confrontation caused by one of her Marines insulting the injured, wheelchair-bound Bai Ina. She orders the weapons lowered and challenges Lieutenant Colonel Leo over his crew's conduct. Although she initially dismisses Bai Ina as a child of uncertain rank, she notices that the crew obeys him with unusual respect 86.
The dispute escalates when Bai Ina refuses to let the offending Marine leave. Black Cat kills the man, and Bai Ina selectively incapacitates the Marines from Hina's ship with Conqueror's Haki, leaving Hina standing 87.
Assigned the room opposite Bai Ina's, Hina investigates why someone with his abilities remains a kitchen grunt. His evasive answers anger her, and she binds him to his wheelchair. When he kisses her in an attempt to escape her torment, she bites his tongue and attacks him; Black Cat carries him away 88 89.
Slave Rescue
Hina's fleet rescues enslaved people, including a mermaid, and is pursued by pirates hired by the slave catchers. Despite their hostile relationship, Bai Ina immediately leaves to help her after Momousagi reports the distress call 93.
Hina shields her warship against Nicholas's cannon fire until Bai Ina arrives. Seeing him still dressed in a patient's gown, she recognizes that he rushed to her aid without even changing clothes. Her outward response remains brusque, but her gaze toward him noticeably softens 94.
Romance with Bai Ina
Over the next two years, Hina visits Bai Ina every few months. Their relationship includes meals, shopping trips, and three shared missions. Others—including Hina's own soldiers—regard them as a couple, while Bai Ina remains oblivious to her intentions 95 97.
After comforting him over his uncertainty about leaving the base, Hina confesses her feelings and initiates a kiss. Bai Ina accepts her, and they spend the night together. When he departs to rescue Sa Kaiyang, Hina chooses to wait rather than hinder him 96 97.
She later remains at Momousagi's base until Bai Ina's bounty poster appears. Delighted by the news, she agrees to return to Headquarters 133.
Ogar Island and Romantic Rivalries
Hina arrives near Ogar Island aboard a warship bearing a crossed-out Navy insignia and a Black Blade symbol. Bai Ina's followers greet her as their sister-in-law, and she does not deny the relationship 173.
Her meeting with Hancock quickly becomes hostile. Hancock calls her a mistress, Hina retaliates, and Hancock begins releasing Conqueror's Haki. Bai Ina intervenes and declares that both women belong with him; they respond by punching him simultaneously 174.
During the battle against Whitebeard, Hina and Hancock compete in encouraging their allies. Kuina's arrival introduces another romantic rival, provoking jealousy in both women. After the battle, Hina travels aboard an Asura Pirates ship, while her Marines are sent with Hijikata and Mo Mo to the newly selected base 182 186 189.
Accepting Robin
When the badly injured Bai Yi resolves to rescue Zongcilang, Robin offers a way to restore his missing arms through his power-copying ability. Hina initially objects to being excluded from their discussion and is shocked by the explanation of how his ability works. She ultimately accepts Robin's proposal, prioritizing Bai Yi's survival despite her jealousy 201.
