Reke carried the Gravity Chamber home, but Bellis and the others had already left.
He found an empty space and carefully set the Gravity Chamber down. As he admired how convenient the Hoi-Poi Capsule was, he felt grateful all over again.
He stepped inside and eyed the buttons for adjusting the gravity. Full of anticipation, Reke set it to ten times normal gravity.
"Bzz—"
Reke felt a weight settle over him, accompanied by a trace of discomfort.
He stayed where he was and moved his body around until the discomfort faded completely. Then he started increasing the gravity again.
When he reached thirty times normal gravity, he could clearly feel the pressure on his eyes, so he took his finger off the button.
His body could still handle it, but he couldn't be sure his eyeballs could withstand anything more. After all, he'd never trained his eyes.
During every battle before this, his ki had protected him, so it hadn't been a problem.
Reke wanted a Gravity Chamber not only because it was a legendary tool for getting stronger in the original story, but also because he'd noticed a weakness of his own.
Simply adding weight couldn't meet his needs, and there were many parts of his body it couldn't train.
Take Gohan in Dragon Ball Super, for example.
In the original story, he was actually injured by an energy gun. Reke found that unbelievable.
Even at his weakest, Gohan had only seemed weak when compared to Kakarot and the others.
In reality, Gohan's battle power at the time must have been at least ten billion, yet he was injured by a weapon with less than ten thousand battle power.
Absurd. Absurdity had opened the door for absurd, and absurdity was home.
Based on what he'd learned from the anime and his own experience, Reke could only guess that Gohan's body was too fragile.
Gohan had never done gravity training. All his battle power came from the ki inside him.
Without ki to protect him, his body wasn't much stronger than an ordinary person's.
Reke had no idea how Gohan's fragile body could contain the immense amount of ki inside him.
He could only chalk it up to the world's rules being different.
That also explained how Kakarot could go from ten times normal gravity to withstanding a hundred times in just one week. He must have trained both his body and his ki.
It also showed that in the Dragon Ball world, a stronger body could help increase the ki within you. But the reverse wasn't true: simply increasing your ki didn't strengthen your body at all.
With Gohan as a living example, how could Reke not try to make up for that weakness? He didn't want to get killed without even knowing why.
He was still young and couldn't leave Udrapa Planet, so he had plenty of time to gradually adapt his body to higher gravity and make himself stronger, using his body to drive the growth of his ki.
Reke spent the whole day on the basics, gradually adapting to the gravity and strengthening his body. When he came out of the Gravity Chamber, Pat and Lola were waiting outside.
"Why are you here? Is something up?" Reke asked, puzzled.
Lola rolled her eyes at him and didn't answer. She cursed inwardly, This brat is so annoying. Can't I come over just because I feel like it?
Pat spoke up. "Reke, Lan Xin and the others are being discharged tomorrow. Should we bring them straight here?"
Reke stared at him blankly. It took him a moment to remember who Pat was talking about.
"Bring them here," he said with a slight nod.
Reke turned to go take a shower, but noticed the two of them staring intently at the Gravity Chamber.
"Reke, is this the Gravity Chamber you had Professor Plus make?" Lola asked curiously, looking eager to try it.
"That's right. Do you want to give it a try?" Seeing their interest, Reke asked directly.
They both nodded so vigorously it looked like their heads might fall off.
"Tomorrow, find a few people to keep watch. Don't let anyone near it from now on." Once he was standing inside the Gravity Chamber, Reke turned to Pat and gave him the instructions.
He was worried someone might sneak in. He didn't want anyone damaging the Gravity Chamber, and it was dangerous, especially for the members of the Dabusu Adventure Group.
"And the same goes for you two. This thing is unfamiliar and dangerous for you. One mistake, and you'll be crushed into meat patties."
Pat took Reke's warning seriously, but Lola didn't seem particularly concerned.
Reke noticed their reactions but said nothing. Instead, he turned the gravity up to ten times normal.
Thud! Thud! They hit the floor with two loud thumps.
The sudden gravity—five times what they were used to on Udrapa Planet—caught Pat and Lola off guard and pressed them to the ground.
They were both completely stunned, with no idea what had happened. A crushing weight engulfed them, and every cell in their bodies protested.
They gritted their teeth, summoned every ounce of strength, and slowly managed to stand.
Their legs trembled nonstop, and their faces were bright red from the blood rushing to them.
Reke watched them in silence. Given their battle power, they shouldn't have been in such a sorry state.
It was because they hadn't been ready and hadn't used the ki inside them for protection.
Even Kakarot had reacted about the same way the first time he experienced ten times normal gravity. But what had his battle power been back then? Less than five hundred, or less than a thousand even with a power-up.
After several months of training their ki, Pat and Lola both had battle power above a thousand. Pat had even passed fifteen hundred.
After about ten minutes, they finally started feeling a little better.
Seeing that, Reke turned off the gravity.
"Huff, huff!" They both let out a deep breath of relief.
That made one thing clear to Reke: their bodies really weren't as strong as a Saiyan's.
A Saiyan's body would have adapted much faster.
He'd just realized that if Pat and Lola stayed under ten times normal gravity for too long, their bodies might suffer some damage. It would be minor, of course, and their bodies could recover on their own given enough time.
But Saiyans were different. Their bodies wouldn't be damaged so easily. They would only feel tired, and a little extra food would take care of it.
"So, how was it? Pretty intense?" Reke asked, a mischievous grin on his face.
Pat still couldn't believe it. He asked in disbelief, "Did you train in this environment all day?"
"No. I was at thirty times normal gravity. You two were just at ten."
Pat gave a bitter smile, impressed despite himself.
Lola, however, couldn't stand Reke's smug look. She said sarcastically, "So you're not that much stronger than us! Just three times as strong."
"NONONO! You don't understand," Reke said with a mysterious look, not bothering to argue with her.
Lola didn't know what "NONONO" meant, but judging by what he'd said next, she guessed it wasn't anything good.
"Thirty times normal gravity would crush you into meat patties in an instant." After saying that, Reke shut off the power and headed outside.
Starting tomorrow, he would teach Lan Xin how to train, and he also had to work on strengthening his body. The days ahead would be busy.
Reke whistled as he walked into the house.
Pat and Lola were left staring at each other.
