Martial Souls manifest during an awakening ceremony and may be inherited from a parent, combine traits from both parents, or mutate. Liu Yuan's Origin Willow emerged as a beneficial mutation of his father's Willow Spirit and his mother's Source Water Lotus, giving it a stronger life attribute than an ordinary Willow Spirit 1.

• An awakening can be accompanied by a test of innate soul power; Liu Yuan awakened with innate level 7 soul power 1.
• A Martial Soul's attributes influence its future Soul Ring choices and development path. Origin Willow initially possessed wood and life attributes, with wood as its dominant attribute 1.
• Bloodline power can alter a Martial Soul after awakening. Origin Willow resonated with and absorbed traits from the Golden-Crowned Poplar's corpse, causing its root system and wood attribute to develop 3 4.
• In some other worlds accessed through the multiverse, Martial Souls cannot be passively awakened and instead require trials to stimulate their manifestation 116.

Classifications and Attributes

Twin Martial Souls	The possession of two Martial Souls. A second Martial Soul can provide another set of Soul Ring slots and substantially increase a Soul Master's future potential 137 138.
Ultimate Attribute	An exceptionally high-grade attribute. Origin Willow evolves into Ultimate Wood, while its light attribute is expected to have the potential to become Ultimate Light 27 52.

Soul Rings and Soul Skills

Soul Rings are acquired from Soul Beasts and provide a Martial Soul with soul skills. The patterns contained within a Soul Ring are the origin of its skill; after absorption, those patterns change and become intrinsically tied to the user's Martial Soul 76.

Electrolux describes the essence of a Soul Ring as a contract between Soul Master and Soul Beast. The later-developed Martial Soul Natal Weapon system works by extracting and forging these contractual patterns 78 79.

Rooting

Origin Willow's first Soul Ring came from a Golden-Crowned Poplar. Its first soul skill, Rooting, establishes the willow's roots in the earth 3 4.

• Continuously restores the user's soul power and stamina while rooted.
• Provides an increase to the user's attribute strength.
• Consumes soul power to maintain and manipulate the willow's branches.
• Remains useful beyond the early stages because it combines recovery, utility, and augmentation 4.

Absorb

Origin Willow's second soul skill, Absorb, selectively drains an opponent's vital resources 6.

• Can drain life force, nutrients, soul power, or stamina.
• Its nature is severe enough that careless use could make Liu Yuan appear similar to an Evil Soul Master 6.

Myriad Transformation

Myriad Transformation is Origin Willow's third soul skill. It allows the Martial Soul Natal Weapon to assume different weapon forms rather than remaining a willow tree 14 79.

• Supports the creation of constructs such as the self-created Wood Dragon.
• Lets the Origin Willow Natal Weapon transform into the Soul-Breaking Spear 14 80.

Light Energy Aggregation

Liu Yuan gained his fourth Soul Ring from a ten-thousand-year Bright Light Tree and reached level 41. The resulting skill, Light Energy Aggregation, is an amplification ability 65.

• Grants a base 50% increase to all attributes.
• Can accumulate additional light energy to raise the amplification further.
• Requires the user to remain still and undisturbed while gathering light.
• Can temporarily raise the tier of a technique, but cannot be used consecutively 65.

Nature Domain

Origin Willow possesses the Nature Domain, which links Liu Yuan with nearby plant life 70.

• Plants within the domain's range act as guides by conveying emotional impressions.
• Liu Yuan used it to detect the tension and fear of nearby vegetation, exposing two hidden Soul Emperor assassins.
• Maintaining the domain without activating its active abilities has relatively low soul-power consumption 70.

Martial Soul Fusion Skills

A Martial Soul Fusion Skill requires compatibility between the participants' Martial Souls, soul power, and related qualities. Liu Yuan's fusion with Di Qiu'er originates not from the natural compatibility of Origin Willow and Golden Dragon, but from their shared fate-based resonance after the Three-Eyed Golden Lion's attribute induction 70.

• Liu Yuan and Di Qiu'er's fusion produces a massive eye and fate-based radiance capable of rendering Soul Skills and Soul Bone skills ineffective against it.
• Targets struck by this fusion must resist with their own essence, energy, spirit, and life force rather than relying on abilities.
• The skill drains all soul power from both users upon activation 70.

Liu Yuan and Wang Dong'er later use the Martial Soul Fusion Skill Heaven and Earth Great Grinding to defeat the Dreadclaw Bear Avatar and the Dou Ling Royal Academy team 141.

• The technique exhausts both users heavily.
• Liu Yuan deliberately chooses a less powerful fusion form to avoid causing severe injury 141.

Twin Martial Souls and Self-Fusion

Liu Yuan acquires a second Martial Soul by signing a Soul Spirit Contract with the Snow Empress. With Electrolux modifying the Snow Empress's origin core, the resulting Martial Soul becomes the Lord of Winter, possessing Ultimate Ice, Death, and Utter Darkness attributes 177.

When the Lord of Winter and Origin Willow are released together, their opposing auras begin to fuse, producing a Self-Martial Soul Fusion Skill 177.

• The intended principle is winter as accumulation and spring as impetus, using the reversal at an extreme to unite the two Martial Souls 147.
• Its output does not equal a fusion between two separate people, but the fusion of Liu Yuan's two Ultimate Martial Souls is expected to reach the level of a god-tier Martial Soul 180.

Martial Soul Natal Weapons

A Martial Soul Natal Weapon is a physical weapon forged from the patterns of a Soul Master's Soul Rings. It is linked to both the user and their Martial Soul, functioning as an extension of the original body rather than as the Martial Soul itself 77 93.

Forging Process

• Extract one Soul Pattern from each Soul Ring. The Soul Ring reappears after extraction, but the replacement cannot yield another Soul Pattern 79.
• Merge the patterns into a single embryo.
• Use soul power as the furnace, blood energy as fuel, and spiritual power as the forging hammer to shape the embryo 79.
• Add physical material to give the weapon durability. Rare metals and heavenly treasures are viable materials, while Gold of Life is regarded as exceptionally valuable 77.
• Ordinary Soul Tools cannot be directly used as the final material because their core matrices conflict with Soul Patterns; Soul Patterns can, however, be used to construct a Natal Weapon with Soul Tool-like functions 94.

Capabilities

• A Natal Weapon can use nearly all of its owner's techniques and methods.
• When wielded by its owner, it can produce combat power greater than the sum of wielder and weapon.
• Soul skills associated with the original Martial Soul remain available through the Natal Weapon 77 99.
• Through continued compatibility and comprehension, a Natal Weapon may develop spirituality and eventually a weapon spirit 77 101.

Heavenly Tribulation

The improved cultivation system uses Martial Soul Natal Weapons to connect a Soul Master to the Spirit of the Plane. Each Heavenly Tribulation deepens that connection; completing the final tribulation signifies recognition by the plane 79.

• In the system described by Huo Yuhao, exceptional talents attract Heavenly Tribulation upon reaching level 50, while ordinary Soul Masters face it at level 70.
• After reaching Titled Douluo, every additional level triggers another Heavenly Tribulation 76.
• During forging, Heavenly Tribulation can descend after each Soul Pattern is integrated, with each successive strike increasing in intensity 107.
