Background / History

Beerus is Universe 7's God of Destruction, a deity whose duty is to destroy planets. He has lived for at least one or two hundred million years and can remain asleep for decades at a time. His reputation is feared across the universe: King Kai's planet was reduced in size after he offended Beerus, while even Frieza would not dare act presumptuously before him. 47

Before the main story, Beerus instructed Frieza to eliminate the Saiyans and held a grudge against King Vegeta for keeping the universe's best pillow for himself. Beerus later reveals that he had suggested Frieza's genocide of the Saiyans. 125 160

After dreaming of a powerful future rival, Beerus awakens and learns from Whis that Son Gohan defeated Frieza, has mastered Hakai Energy, and may be connected to the Super Saiyan God from his prophecy. This leads Beerus to travel to Earth. 124 125

Beerus is proud, temperamental, and highly conscious of his authority as a God of Destruction. He reacts with displeasure when he hears that Son Gohan had discussed him stepping down, and he refuses to let doubts or lingering guilt interfere with destructive power. 125 159 160

Despite his fearsome role, Beerus is notably lazy and food-motivated. He sleeps for extremely long periods, complains about Whis's cooking, and repeatedly visits or considers visiting Earth for its cuisine. 47 125 132 211

He is also competitive and spiteful toward fellow Gods of Destruction, particularly Champa and Quitela. Beerus provokes Champa through their rivalry and brings Gohan to challenge Quitela partly because he resents the other gods targeting him during Zeno's match. 140 210 211 212
