Chiba first appears as a frail child captured by Heichen’s group. Heichen intends to use him as disposable bait, attaching Explosive Tags to his back to expose hidden enemies. Chiba survives, but starvation, poison, and infection nearly kill him before the refugee leader Xia Mu takes him in despite opposition from the group. 3 9
